This AX FX Ultra preset morphs between a Brownface and a MkIIc+. Plug an expression pedal into Ext 1 and you are ready to hit tunes that alternate with clean EJ type rhythms and woolly leads like Trademark, etc! It's cool because it morphs between them with a carefully adjusted fade parameter to make it smooth. I changed the delay to stereo. Not true to EJ, but sounds fuller. The delays still needs to get brightened a bit I think.

I didn’t have processing power left with all the other stuff to do a separate drive pedal hitting a Plexi for the distorted side, but this gets you close. The A side is a take off on the factory EJ preset. The B is really woolly and works with single coils and humbuckers. I'm suing the Morse hardtail with DiMarzio Area 61 single coil and PAF Anniversary bridge humbucker for most of the leads.

Very interesting, John. Cool segues and complex tones. Playing rocks, as always. :)

I like the little delay ghost "ping" thingy in the right channel near the end. Never heard anything like that before.

Thanks for listening. Anyone with an AxeFX Ultra can upload these presets and take over where I left off. Unfortunately, this preset won't run on a standard Axe model since it's maxing the CPU due to the big parallel path. The Axe community is populated by some great players like Peter Thorn (Chris Cornel band), Dweezil Zappa, and many more who write terrific presets and share them on the Axexchange. I just started posting my prests as I hadn't hooked my box to my computer yet. Duhh..

Since this prest fades back and forth between two amp sounds, you can get really creative. Very fun. I think that ping was totally and accident.

Wow! I wasn't sold on the Axe-FX until now.
I'm assuming there's no post processing?

Is it possible for you to break down what is in this preset?
I was thinkin of a similar sound on a pod x3... could attempt it if i had better idea of the chain path?
Sounds awesome, ive yet to see these units in the UK though

You'll have a hard time replicating it with the POD.

But if you want to see EVERYTHING down to the last detail, just download JC's patch from axechange.net, then download the editor and analyse away.

Here's the simple layout of JC's patch and his comments, as displayed on Axechange.net

Dweezil Zappa's going nuts with it and uploading all his patches too.

It says the patch he linked to is corrupt when I load it into the editor?

No Problems my end.

Make sure you have the editor set to use v7.04
(Click on editor config tab in top RH corner & choose correct xml file : ultra_7_04.xml) - may need to restart editor.

Then go to "List of Presets" tab - top LH corner.

Right-Click on blank preset.

Choose "Import Preset"

Locate JC's patch.

Once imported, make sure that preset is highlighted.

Click on "Preset Routing" tab.

Voila - click on any of the block / effect icons and it'll automatically show you all the parameters.

:)

Cheers, was doin it wrong.
I'd love to try one of these units.
Its a real shame it don't have USB.
Having to hook up to midi to control/update/configure from computer is so slow, old fashioned and would be a total pain in the ass for me.

Ability to digitally record direct over USB would have been a great feature also.
Just a few things I would expect from such an expensive piece of kit.

I don't find the Midi comms inconvenient at all.
Sure, you need the interface, but it stays plugged in handles all firmware upgrades and editor controlling.
Once set up, there are no issues.

I think most users would have their own preference for audio interface / sound card too, hence the ommission of an on-board unit.

Mine's routed direct to a Fast Track Ultra via SPDIF and I couldn't be happier.

Holy smokes. I finally got a chance to listen to this clip. GREAT tone and playing John!

I don't make it out to San Diego to visit the folks as often as I should. When is the 'Melon gonna make it to Austin, TX?

Thanks, I'd love to play in TX, but I'm trying to keep the gigs down to a minimum now so I can focus on writing for the next HWM. I'm really excited about it as there will be some familiar faces like Jerry Goodman (from Dregs and Mahavishnu) again, but also my friends Marco Minnemann on drums, Mike Keneally on keys, vibes and maybe some vocals! I'm getting some new guitars too like a new National etc. Gonna be tastefully sick.

Sorry I missed your question. No, this one was straight into PT - morphing back and forth between the clean and lead signal paths with the expression pedal.
