I have been using a behringer BTR 2000 tuner and it doesn't always want to register on the B or E strings. I have a small pocket size Korg and it works quite a bit better. But it is too small to see on stage under lights and uses batteries which I don't like. Does anyone know of one about the size of my markbass f1 that runs off of ac.

Thanks guys! I use to have a peterson and I don't like stomp boxes. I would like something rackmountable.

Sonic Research...a better alternative to Peterson?

I had a StroboStomp and then a StroboStomp 2. Both were very good tuners. But I found out about the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. It is a USA made tuner that sells for about two thirds the price of the Peterson. It is a true strobe tuner with an accuracy of .2 cents. That is five times more accurate than the Peterson. It is built like a tank and is the size of a phase 90. I realize that the increase in accuracy over the already accurate Peterson may seem like an overkill. But it does result in more accurate tuning because even when the leds are just barely moving it is already more precise than the Peterson when the bars are frozen. As a plus it is true bypass and is in a dust sealed inclosure. The Petersons have an open design which allow them to collect dust on the display in a short matter of time. It doesn't have a DI like the Peterson if that is of importance.

IMHO, the Sonic Research is to the Peterson what a Music Man is to a Fender, quality and feature wise. I highly recommend this tuner. I really don't know why it doesn't cost more than the Peterson.

I have a Peterson SS2 and the Boss pedal tuner and they both work great. The Peterson is more accurate but unless your guitarist has an equally accurate tuner you won't be able to tell the difference, IMO.

I use the Peterson and can hear the difference between it and the boss ones...I really like that the Peterson has a setting for working with Pianos....

I have heard very good things about the turbo tuner as well.

Korg Pitchblack is a nice choice for a stompbox style. Can be had for around $80.[/url]

I too like the Korg Pitchblack alot. Very sturdy and very easy to use live, when it´s often dark on stage. Very easy to read and very accurate. This is my favorite when it comes to tuners in a live situation. And it´s not very costly either. True bypass too. Important feature on tuners I´d say.

But I use Peterson tuners in the studio and when intonating the instruments.

I got tired of hearing a range of pitch that my former tuner (Sabine) indicated was "in tune"...

Moved up to a Peterson StroboRack tuner and I've been very pleased. :D

I recently asked the same "tuner" question over on the guitar side.

The pitchblack looks a great deal and as I use other tunings the "Pitchblack plus" looks perfect.

One of the replies to my question mentioned that when using a Peterson strobe type tuner on stage, tuning was difficult because of the combination of the very high accuracy of tuning linked with the strobing effect.

The pitchblack seems to be more than accurate enough for gigs whereas the Peterson would seem better suited to the workbench when doing guitar set ups?

The pitchblack seems small enough to slip into your guitar case and provides a large LED readout - which for me is desired.

is it to late to add me to the Peterson list? They're amazing and EB use them for repairs and setups on their instruments.
