Funny Stuff

Yes, but do you want to see pics of a guitar he has not bought?

Might be better to post the pics (and post in the serial number sticky) AFTER you've actually ACQUIRED the guitar.

Putting your request for info of an EBMM guitar based on serial number in the "my serial number is" is kind of abusing the purpose of the thread, which is to record the serial number of a guitar you OWN so that if it gets ripped off you can find the serial number to give to police. This is nice, especially if you haven't recorded your serial numbers anywhere else.

Sorry but all this seems askew to me. The first question to ask newbies with this type of request would be, do you own the guitar, or are you just seeking information about a prospective guitar you "might" purchase.

Sorry Jim, I am afraid I have to disagree. I just fail to see how that is really our place to make these inquiries of people. It also does not seem to be a welcoming response to a newbie. Ultimately, EBMM decides whether to give the person the date of manufacture or not, it's up to them.

Hee hee - I can see what has happened. I've posted before about this ...
what people forget is that the initial post in the serial number sticky reads as follows:-

"Let's consider this a "requirement" for this board; if you're a current member, post your serials in the format I give of mine. New members will add to the list as they join. Put DOB requests in a separate thread, as they will come and go, but do make sure that you have your serial in here, which will serve as the forum's master record."

Over the years people have used the sticky to ask for DOB of their guitars, not reading the initial post.

Even EB CS admitted that they usually look to this sticky for DOB requests and had forgotten about this initial post.

I personally don't see it as a problem - posting a separate thread to ask for a D.O.B. as they soon disappear off the front page when the info has been obtained.

Either way - it's great to have this service which helped me when I bought my EVH.

Anyways - Cave14 - welcome - even when we disagree around here nobody really "falls out" for long. It's a great forum to belong to and the unwritten rule is that when somebody joins and says that they have an EB, somebody usually chimes in saying "show us pictures!!" - we do this for fellow forumite "Foggy" who collects photos of EB guitars - it keeps him off the streets and everybody can sleep safely as a result ;) (Foggy we love you really and you don't get so much "stick" now a daze !!!)

Paranoid - I think you're misinterpreting the intention of my post. I'm simply stating that if we knew if the guitar was actually owned by the person we could them direct them to the serial number thread. And contrarily, if the person doesn't own it then we wouldn't. And I was pointing out the original intent of the sticky thread. As for asking newbs a question, I'll ask them next time and I don't see a problem with it. What you do is your business.

Additionally - I responded with great tact and humility to this newbie in a separate and private PM, of which you were unaware.

Spud - as always, you hit the nail on the head. However, I have to ask. Not that it's any of my business really, I'm just a wayward Knucklehead. What is the point of cluttering up a *sticky* thread with serial number information for guitars that aren't owned by forumites? I've seen Dan and Beth and other CS's answer those questions in the regular section of MM guitars. Now that you've pointed out that everyone is AOK with the cluttering, then I suppose it's a moot point. So I'll just go play my guitars and not give it much more thought.
Thanks.
