You should do what Steve Morse has done. Take the neck off and carry it on...

Be safe Tiffles.

I fear it's too late to change things now - young Tiffs has again abandoned Toombawoombagoombaloompa. Don't we have anyone in Switzerland? A Knucklehead with more basses than sense?

that's terrible... airlines should be prepared for the working musician, the few times i had to take a flight for a gig i was in a lot of trouble, i play bass and synthesizer so my luggage is quite big... lucky for my at last i was able to carry everything without paying for extra weight...

All i can say is: be strong Tiffles!!

Tiffles/Guys, I don't understand this - my basses have been across the Atlantic UK/US/Canuckia more times than I can count. Put them in a hardshell case and they go in the hold, no problem.

Or am I missing something?

Tiff, if excess baggage charges were the reason for sending the bass surface post, you could have always ditched 10 pairs of shoes instead :)

excess baggage was the big one... america is still a very blessed country... if you are coming from or going to the US you are allowed a total weight of 32kgs over 2 bags plus your carry on luggage. flying to zurich i was allowed 20 kgs.... 2kgs of that were vegemite and cherry ripes etc for the people paying for my flight. i didnt even pack shampoo etc cause it would be better for me to have the extra few hundred grams .... i was made to repack my bag when i was 3kg over.... hand luggage was only allowed to be 7kg.... my bass is about 12kg.... excess luggage was $70 a kilo

unfortunately it just sucks. big time. the only reason why they let me take it last time was because one of their employees gave me the wrong information and i booked with them because i thought it was correct.

ps. mark, i only have 3 pairs of shoes, one i was wearing, and one are pluggers. ;) so ner :p

pps... montreux is GORGEOUS... come on over for the super famous jazz festival :)
