Sparkle update: here she is...

Er...the Boss hasn't seen it.... yet. That will happen tonight. Wish me luck. I have an explanation of sorts, query whether it will hold water. Too complex to explain but involves a rationalization of sorts. Nevertheless the truth is a 7ender 7azz 8ass has recently left the house, a fact of which she is aware.

I should add that it sounds and plays great (of course) and is a nice medium weight, haven't put it on the scales but feels lighter than either of the sunbursts.

Yes, they are all very nice Stingrays, but to be honest I've already concluded that the Sparkle is probably the best of the three overall, in terms of weight playability and tone. The pre-EB B00 has nice vibe and is of historical interest to me [and of course sounds different because of the 2 band]. The '91 has some pretty neck wood figuring going on and is also a great bass.... but the '01 Sparkle is probably the go-to bass that I'd grab for a gig (glam-rock or otherwise!). OK, I am in the honeymoon phase on this one but I know what I like and I've had more than a few rays pass through my hands.

All of which gets me fired up when I see eejuts making unsubstantiated claims on ebay that the new ones can never be as good as the "vintage" one they are currently selling. Well they would say that wouldn't they? Nevertheless, by now I've had a few of them, old, mid-age and new and those guys are blowing it out their backsides as far as I am concerned.

The other thing that never ceases to amaze me about Stingrays, even though I really ought to be used to them by now is that thing that happens whenever I plug one in, I immediately get that "yes, that's it!" feeling all over, like it's a whole new joyful experience.

(Oh, and none of these have "the weak G thing". Come to think of it none of the others I formerly owned had that either. Clearly there must be something wrong with me )

Interesting stuff Goldsmith. The sparkle is a beauty (I forgot to mention that in my first post). I don't have any experience with Vintage instruments, and I've only played one Stingray through my amp, so I'll just shut up now

PS: Thanks for typing all that stuff, I was asked today by a guitarist friend what I thought of vintage Fenders eek so I'll have to direct him to your post for a more informed opinion.
