I did my first gig with my one week old Bongo 5 HS last night. I’ve loved the tone while practicing by myself and a single ¼ volume band rehearsal we did during the week. The gig last night was in a large atrium room that tends to sound much boomier than the normal pubs and clubs I typically play using my trusty Stingrays. But the Bongo killed last night. Unbelievable, wow, schwing! I took the advice of folks on this forum and started everything flat and tweaked in small increments. Within a few knob tweaks (and only a couple of minutes) I had the best tone I’ve ever heard out of my rig (Markbass 102P + homemade 15” cab). Combined with the direct into the PA, it had an incredible presence that was thick and rich, but when I needed it to cut through, another minor tweak of the tone knobs and roll of the pickup selector and it was razor sharp. This is, without a doubt, the most versatile, best sounding bass I’ve ever owned.

For all you Stingray owners that might be on the fence about buying a Bongo, especially if you’ve never laid your hands on one (like me), take the plunge. Now. The only regret I have is waiting this long to buy one.

Ah, the Bongo snakebite claims another victim.

;)

IMO, they retain a most desirable EBMM core tone while allowing a massive amount of tone shaping from an HH config...Exactly what I wanted, if a classic '70's - 80's Sabre wasn't to be had.

I actually have my eye on a desert gold 5HH, yes there is something special about the H...but there is also something about the HH.

There is also something about Desert Gold.

Everyone NEEDS a Desert Gold Bongo.

Yes, I know that True Gold is the new Desert Gold, and Eggman's BFR TG Bongo proves this.

But...

There will NEVER EVER be another DG.

Discontinuing it was just...just....

nuts.

IMHO.

How great they are! How do you decide which one to play?
