Hey people... just wanted to ask everyone; who here has had a refret done on their EBMM guitar?

Which model was it and what fret size did you use?

Were you satisfied with the results?

I have. EBMMs fret work is second to none, and their bench rates are so low, it's hard to consider taking it anywhere else. (Caveat is you have to replace the wire with the stock size.)

All my guitars bar the ASS have been re-fretted. They all have Stewmac 149 wire, and I prefer it to the stock EBMM wire as its a little bigger and taller.

I could not be happier with the results!

If there is any way you can get it out to SLO, do it, you won't be disappointed. Beej's pinkburst AL was mine and I had a refret done on it before I sold it to him.

Price was more than right and the turn around time was incredible...

Wow, Tim. I though about having my Axis refretted with bigger frets. You and I are totally on the same wavelength. Could you post a profile shot of the neck?

I just had one of my Axis Sports refretted with Dunlop 6100s (Vinnie Moores fret of choice) and I love them.

In life you need fat frets and skinny girls (joking!)

Had my SS refretted with 6105 stainless steel wire.

The guy who did it, did an awesome job and you'd never know it had been refretted at all.

I much prefer it to the original frets.

I know some people who are VERY nit picky about refretting their guitars. Did you refret them after significant wear? Estimate time given how many times played per week?

Actually no, it was brand new.

I have a hand problem which is helped by having taller frets.

It gets about 20 hours playing a week and after 3 months shows no sign of wear at all.... incredible.

Re-frets are something I take very seriously with a guitar. A hack job can completely ruin a good guitar. Outside of sending the guitar to EBMM directly, I only trust a couple of people in Nashville that I would let take on the task on my EVH.

If (when lol) I have my JP7 refretted it will more than likely go to Phil Jacoby up in Baltimore to be plek'd with some jumbo stainless steel frets. If EBMM offered SS frets I'd probably just send it back to them as their fretwork is amazing.

Agreed, their fretwork is very very good. I think more guitar manufacturers in general should offer the option of SS frets on their hi-end models.

When I got my main SS in 2005 the frets were almost brand new. I play it about 15-20 hours a week and at this point some of the grooves in frets 1-5 have made the guitar sound very out of tune when playing chords and the frets are already as small as I'd wanna go for frets, so time for a change.

I will see what I can do. Its been several years since the Red and Purple guitars were done, so in fact they are quite worn now - but super comfortable to play! The best one to show you is my Sunburst Axis, but its being fixed at the mo. When I get it back, I will post a picture.

Both my Red and Purple guitars were re-fretted after 7 or 8 years of gigs, and a couple of fret dresses. The sunburst Axis was done because the neck had some weird bow in it, and a fret dress made the frets very low indeed. Charlie Chandler recommended that the board needed to be planed flat, so I had the same Stewmac 149 wire installed. As it stands, my ASS still has factory wire, and I have no plans to change it at the moment, unless it gets super worn.

I had my 2003 Amber Axis refretted with Stainless steel frets. I love it. They are slightly larger than the original size, but I can't remember what exactly they are, i had a pro do it. I can do setups and wiring, even pedal mods and builds, but I'm just not good with the frets. I want to learn someday, but not on my balls!
