oh dear oh dear oh dear

Well, after all the advice and feedback from you guys (and I thank you) and lots of planning and discussion and negotiating I was all set to post that I'd pushed the button on my long-desired Bongo6. Then I got hit by a really bad 'flu (I won't bore you with the details but it got complicated and I've been off work now for over 3 weeks) and while I was distracted Brandt went and posted the 25th Anniversary bass vid.

Now I'm completely utterly stalled and don't know what to do.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the Bongo 6 to bits and want to have one but the 25th has crawled under my skin and is itching away under there and won't let me be. It's the tone, the tone was amazing. A five string, with a quilt top I think, HSS, I'd prefer a maple fretboard although I think the rosewood looks a bit better on it. It's going to be a load more money but I'm conscious it's a limited run so maybe I should go the extra for it. I can't afford to buy both, before anyone suggests it.

Dunno... what do I do?

Help?

Yes, I think that is reasonable and was sort of the way I was thinking. I'm concerned about how much it's going to cost though - I'm waiting for a price quote but I've got a feeling I'm going to have a bit of a shock...

Mogee, you're not helping here

Then just follow your original heart wish and get the Bongo 6, I am sure you won't regret it, I have the 5ver and I previously thought the Stingray was the best thing since sliced bread until I heard my valve Trace Elliot amp sing angelic tones out of it's speaker and I knew this Bongo is s**t hot and like Ronseal it does exactly what it says on the tin :D

I don't doubt the 25th anniversay is a more technology advanced instrument, what with the chambered body, mahogany tone block and the pickup switching choices which are huge, plus if you are a maple lover like me you would appreciate that unlike the Bongo you can actually get the 25th with a maple f/board.

But you you must wage the importance of the price difference between the two and consider that, there will never be such a thing as the ultimate bass, specially within EBMM, for all you know next year there will be a new model with new specs and the hunt is on again, if you are one of those that can afford to own and collect many of these then yes by all means.

If you can stretch to the 25th Anni then go for it but please try the Bongo 6 regardless before you decide because you will need to know what you leave behind before going for the 25th.

Hmmmm

GO slow now, take a deep breath...everything is GREAT...

Now, do you want the 25th..specifically..or can you wait till next year when they go into regular production...then having both really does make financial sense.

Agree, but will the regular production version have all the features the 25th has at the moment?

I can always buy the Bongo next year, since it's in production already

OK, you've convinced me :D

Seriously, I've talked to S&T and they say there'll be a 25th at the UK Knucklehead bash, so I'm going to hold off making a decision until then I think, so I can try one. Hopefully there'll also be a Bongo6 so I can compare the two.

Downside is you guys may have to suffer listening to my bass playing while I'm doing this :D

I know, I spend hours scrolling up and down having a good drool over them...

But rules are rules and as a UK type person I'm not allowed to buy a new bass direct from a US retailer, which can be a bit frustrating when Brandt and Pete and Beaver have tons of delicious basses in stock and UK retailers have virtually none :(

It would be good if there was a mechanism that allowed some sort of legit transfer from say a US retailer to a UK one, for example, when someone wanted a specific model that otherwise would need to be custom ordered. I'm sure there are valid commercial reasons for the system though - no doubt to try and encourage UK retailers to hold some decent stock!
