I'd been fed up with the fact that the black strap that stops the top of the case from opening right out had come away from the case - even after sticking it back in. So I decided to do a permanent repair.
This is the case before the repair with the "strap webbing" unstuck.
I took some measurements from another case to check where I needed to drill the intended holes.
These are the fixings I used - a large mushroom headed (coach?) bolt, 2 washers for either side of the strap and the nut.
You have to use your fingers to pry the padding away from the inside of the case. Carefully mark your holes and drill through the case.
Because it is REALLY fiddly, a good tip is to superglue the washers either side of the strap as shown in this photo (in hindsight I would also recommend gluing the nut on).
Its all self explanatory really - as I said it's really fiddly and I had to re drill the hole in the webbing as the first attempt resulted in the case opening too far.
