Welcome to the Severed Finger Club! It should be a speedy recovery for you - I recall mine from 20 years ago and it wasn't such a long wait, I'm sure you'll have a much quicker recovery time and a much better end result than mine.

WOW! That is rough. I'm so sorry to hear about this. I really hope things can get fixed.

If it counts for anything, Phil Keaggy is missing his middle finger on his right hand and has been winning fingerpicking awards for decades. All is not lost my friend.

 And here I'm whining about the index finger I cut down to the knuckle still hurting when I make a C.

Hope all goes well and you're back playing soon.

Wow, that really sucks bro. My father cut the tip of his finger off 40 years ago and they managed to sew it back on. The one finger is a bit smaller than the same one on the other hand, but other than that I guess it works ok. (He is no musician though).

You do seem to be in remarkably good spirits. Keep up the positive attitude and I'm sure you will recover very soon. Remember, Tony Iommi lost two finger tips and I think he did ok with his musical career.

Terrible luck, man! I hope it heals up nicely...

Lesson learned: Do EVERYTHING with your OTHER hand. Never use your fretting hand for anything, ever. NOTHING. Not Even typing or eating or driving.

Good advice .. I'll take heed of that in the future, and also hire in a gardener

My brother just cheered me up. He suggested that I learn to play slide after all these years :D ...now there's a thought. Off to hospital in 20 mins, thank you all for your kind and encouraging words...they all mean so much.

Jeez Kev, hope it all works out, gotta be more careful fella, - I'm sure the docs will fix you right up - they can pretty much put any bit anywhere these days, - be well my friend.

I know a local lad who was born with 3 fingers on each hand - what a fantastic guitarist he is.
Keep up with the phsiotherapy and go the extra mile. Set an alarm clock to go off to remind you when to do your exercises - that's what I did after my car crash.

I hope everything works out for you - the next 6 weeks will be the worst and after that, look forward to I hope what will be a steady recovery.

I dunno - anything to get out of duelling with the devil ;)

Update: Well things are looking fairly positive. They didn't do surgery today (after me starving myself from 6 this morning lol) but I met up with the Plastic surgeon who seems pretty sure he can repair the finger pretty good. He is going to wire the two halves of the severed bone together (so I have strength play with my Balls) and rebuild the soft tissue somehow. Apparently it's unlikely that I will have any nerves at the end and perhaps no finger nail but I think I have had a very lucky escape from what could have been a much more serious injury. They are now operating on Tuesday morning so I look forward to ordering my Doug Seven country picking DVD after all !! I guess , as Spud says there will be a fair amount of exercise and physciotherapy necessary over the next few months but this has been a bit of a 'wake up call' for me and I'll certainly be taking a bit more care next time. I was choked up this morning when I was casing up my AL wondering how things would turn out, but there is some hope now of a near full recovery. Thank you all for your support.... I have realised that you are a great extended family and an inspiration. Roll on the Knucklehead bash in two weeks :D
