My suggestion would be to buy a good cab that you can use with other heads as well.

I'm a big fan of the little Suhr ported 1x12, but the Port City 1x12 (or 1x12OS) is excellent too. Big sounding cabs in a small package that you can use with anything in the future.

... and then you can spend your time swapping in different speakers :p

Check out Geezer cabs.

I had him build me a closed back 2x12 cabinet with Celestion Greenbacks and I love it.

Great price, quality and a great person to deal with too.

Here is his website:

I really like my THD 2-12 cabinet. They come up for auction from time to time. I'm actually looking to pick up a second one.

I play it through a 4x12 with G12H30s, it sounds great but I haven't played it through the Blackstar 1x10 so I can't compare.

Shane, how can 5 watts push 4x12? Does it sound ok? Is it foolish for me to purchase a new 4x12 cab for a little 5 watt head?

I know you play through one but it sounds like you already had the cab. I am looking for a cab specifically for the HT-5.

It pushes it just fine, the 5 watts can actually get much louder than I thought.

I did indeed already have the cab, and I'm not sure I would buy a 4x12 for the HT-5, since it's big selling points are reasonable volume and portability- if I was buying a new cab to go with it I'd probably try one of the many ported 2x12s available on the net. That would be a great sounding, though very light and compact rig.

One thing I would warn you about is that I don't think the HT-5 could hang with a rock drummer even through a 4x12, so that may be something to consider if you plan on using it as a gigging amp.

Thanks for all of that.

What 2x12 would you recommend?

I've heard great things about the Earcandy cabs and all the soundclips I've heard featuring them sound really huge for a 2x12, but I haven't tried one myself. Maybe some other folks here who have played around with one can jump in and provide some more info.

Don't rule out a 1x12. There are some that sound huge. And they have the benefit of being small/light/portable. I play out with my Suhr 1x12 often, it's loud and sounds huge.

I'd think a 4x12 is overkill. I can't remember the last time I really got to use mine at a gig! It pretty much sits in the closet gathering dust. 2x12 or 1x12 and pick your speakers for the wattage. Just my two cents.
