San Diego GC 25th anniv. tour

That was a great evening. And so was the hollywood one a couple days earlier. We drove all day to get to hollywood, on my birthday no less, starting off in arizona where we had jack in the box for breakfast, driving 8 hours and having el pollo loco for dinner before that show.

Some highlights for me were

After everyone but about 10 of us had left san diego(me and my gf, norm, capt.don, bravo victor stayed) , I asked Morse if we all chipped in 20 bucks a piece if he'd give us a lesson? He said hed do it but not for any money. The guys from GC wanted to go home by then but for about 15 minutes we hung. I asked steve if he wrote a new classical song for the new cd. He said yeah (though he couldn't remember the name) and went ahead and played it for us. (My favorite moment of both clinics)

Another great moment came after a q from someone in the audience about how do those guys keep songs they have to play over and over every show fresh? Luke replied, "I quit the band." Classic

Upon entering the sd show, sterling and Morse were on stage warming up a bit. Sterling sees me and reaches into a box and says kbaim I got a t-shirt for you. Then pulls out a ladies small and hands it to me.

Brought a trem cover with me for sterling and luke to sign to put on a really special luke i have. I wanted sterling to write WE WISH YOU PLAYED FENDER
but he chose to write, K thanks! (which was fine by me)

Also cool talking Lakers with Scott Ball and Phil Rich (of gc) in Hollywood, and John Ferraro in San Diego. I remember watching part of a Laker game with John and the dallas bash a few years back right when Kobe switched jerseys to #24 and both of us commenting how weird it looked.

Well...

Not as good as mine sir.
BP was tossing shirts to everyone who asked a question. Then he ran out of shirts and started tossing guitar straps. Then BP calls on me and I say, "Im kinda tempted to hold off on my question till you start tossing out guitars"

BP then used the line and went to the next questioner which was funny doing that.

I was going to ask if writing songs in their 50's gave them the same sense of enjoyment as it did in their 20's and 30's?

Btw Like a scmuck i didn't introduce my girl to Sterling. She let me off the hook but i don't know wear my head was at. Just really poor manners, not to mention I wanted BP to meet her. She went to both events bless her...

Keith, you for sure don't deserve that girl. It was a great night. While Keith did instigate the guitar lesson bit with Steve, the coolest part that Steve spent most of the time giving his attention and answering the questions from a couple of kids, mostly on how to improve their solo technique. It was really a classic Morse moment.

I asked if Morse would mind playing something from the new cd (due out later this year) so many of his long time fans are eagerly awaiting.


Also want to add that 2 close friends of mine from hs were also there. Alan and Scott. The 3 of us took guitar lessons from Randy Rhoads BUT I FOUND HIM FIRST! Then told those guys about him.

Actually got back in touch with scott courtesy of Luke at one of the forum bashes. Scott was one of my closest friends senior year. we got our 30th reunion later this year. yikes

Couple more quick hits.

Really enjoyed meeting and chatting with Captain Don. Like pretty much everyone on this forum...theres a sense of already being friends with these people once you actually meet them and get a chance to talk with them.

Hoping are paths cross again soon Don either in the air or on land.

Also we had dinner with Bravo Victor and his wife Kathleen before the show...and a cocktail i think, not sure. This was especially meaningful as Kathleen had undergone lung surgery only 2 weeks earlier to remove a small lesion from her upper lobe. But they caught it early and everything else looks good so she was in great spirits and really looks good.

Also gave a birthday call Sunday to Tommy on our way back to cali for the hollywood gig. Caught up a bit and was very pleased to find out his son is improving every day and is at a point where tommy feels its okay to go back out on the road to germany with the band (DP). best wishes tommy!

True....when he demonstrated those pedal steel bends at the Hollywood session...Luke had the biggest smile on his face....just such mutual admiration between those two.

First off, thank you BP, Steve, Luke, John, and the folks at GC for an amazing night of music and conversation. As always, John was way tight in the pocket, BP (as humble as ever) tore it up on the most beautiful Bongo I've seen. Covert vids confirm what most of us knucks already know, BP is a groove master...Nice solos boss!!! Steve and Luke were...well what else can be said about those two. Not only are they musicians' musicians, but they are both such nice, down-to-earth guys. Like Keith said, Steve would have stayed all night giving free lessons/insights, if we all weren't feeling like we should probably let the fine folks at GC go home. Luke was a little under the weather, but you would never had known (until you heard him talk) Keith, Norm and BV, it was great hanging with you guys...I'm looking forward to more hangs in the future. BP, you are the consummate host, a funny and insightful commentator, and all-around nice guy (and a wicked bass player!) Thank you. -Capt.Don
