OK,

So I have decided to just get a Single Rectifier for the sound I'm looking for.
AND I have a Blackstar HT-5 Head. So now I need a cab.

Everyone RIPS the Vintage 30's that are stock in most of the cabs I'm looking at. It seems like no one makes a decent cab for under $800.

Does anyone just buy a cheap cab and replace the speakers with some nice ones? Seems like a good idea but I have never done it so...

I love the V30's, but only the ones made in the UK. Try Avatar cabs, I hear good things about them.

I see nothing wrong with V30s. They're good speakers, just don't handle the wattage of some others.

Play the cabs and see what you think. That's the best thing to do...

I have a Single Rectifier combo, and I love it, so great choice :). Last week, when I played a Single Rec. head through a 4x12 Mesa Recto cab, it sounded even better, so I would go for one of those. But try a bunch of cabs, see what you like. Peavey seems to make pretty decent cabs for cheap.

make your own I say.
I intend to use some computer cab modelling software and build an extension cab for my F50.
I'll get the wood cut at the suppliers and the end result will save me a fortune.
Another alternative is to buy the cheap Vox speaker cabs and change the speakers over.

decent cab? under $800? with Vintage 30s and/or other Celestion speakers?

I am extremely biased, but I do believe the closed-back Z-Best 212 Cabinet and/or the Z 212 Open-back cabinet would work nicely with your amps ...... granted, they aren't 412 configurations ..... but they'll still let ya move plenny of air and get yer sound hear. :)

as usual: just my .02, ymmv, imho, xyz, etc, etc, etc .......
cheers always, eh

I hear most people raving over V30s- but that really doesn't matter either way, do you like 'em? I personally like lower wattage speakers because I like the speaker breakup you can get with them, but a lot of people HATE that. It's all preference.

Can anyone find anything wrong with running a Single Rectifier, a HT-5, and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe through this...

I saw a legacy 4x12 in Daddy's Junky a few weeks ago and it looked really sturdy, moreso than a current Marshall cab IMO. Recto cabs come with V30s, so that should be a fine match, and I'm sure the others will work fine also. One thing about V30s (and a few other Celestians) that I think sometimes leads people to make a snap decision is that they REALLY need to be broken in to tame the highs and bring out the sweetness.

I made my own pair of cab's. It was really good fun, plus you get to make them to your exact specifications. Go for it!

I didn't bother with any sort of design software for them, I just took the old fashioned approach that WEM used, ie: make them big!
