Ok, so I call Carvin about the Vai 2x12 and the dude tells me that I will damage the speakers only running 5 watts to it. I had never heard this before.

Aren't some of you running this little guy through 4x12 monsters???

i think he is telling you porkies!(lies!)
over powering damage it , yes , underpowering it? how exactly? as you rightly say some people are playing through 4x12 and other through 2x12

I doubt he was lying. It's more likely that he was just plain wrong. Why would he encourage me NOT to buy something from him.

Anyones ever heard of this concept?

Agree, he's talking trash!

Anyway, I've been playing my HT5 head through my Celestion G12h loaded 1x12 cab today and it was sounding fantastic!

To keep this more EBMM related, I was playing my Pacific Blueburst Axis and Dargie Luke.... lots of yummy tones!

The only other way you could damage either your amp or speakers is if the Ohms don't match up. But the HT-5 will do 8 or 16 ohms, and the Carvin cab is an 8ohm, so it should be fine.
