I tried a 25th HSS 4-string at Bass Emporium today, wow! I really dig the HSS setup. You get the cool chunky options of the front two pickups... kind of like two variations on a P bass, but then there's the bridge HB... And all three work great together. I'm going to review it for the Bass Emporium website/newsletter. No video, but a nice extensive review and sound samples. Should be up first Tuesday in July. BTW, BE has got some real sweet MMs,.

The Capt loved the HSS and just as Ed Friedland stated, I particualrly loved the sound of the 2 singles together, in all the variants, i.e. passive / active and series / parallel each one was a tastiers slice of pie!!

Fan Man! Have you ever read that book? Well, the resemblance is striking.

YES the 25th is a KEEPER! No doubt. I played it again last night, it is a rock and roll animal! It stays with me.

Thoughts about HSS vs HH...

Well, I like them both. The HSS offers some very distinctly new tones for MM, and very useful ones at that - a potential P-Bass killer. My favorite thing about the 25th HH is the ability to choose series/parallel for all settings, that is killer. So... if it were possible to make the HSS have that capability... that would smoke! Though I'm not sure it could be done with only 4 buttons.

I think the series/parallel and active/passive capabilities make these basses incredibly useful. There is a tone for virtually any situation in there.

HSS is an awesome tone machine.

I am loving the humbucker with the middle pickup combo. Nice fat juicy tone. hmmmm, hmmm, good baby!!! :p

I definitely agree the neck or neck/middle pickup combo with all the EQ options is P-Bass buster.
