New to Forum and EBMM Axis Club

Hello everyone.

Well, I have been a fan of EVH and the EBMM Axis for some time. And have been itching for like forever to get one. Well, I finally found one I could reasonably afford on ebay. Thanks to my pension from the company that laid me off.

Anyway, I haven't recieved it yet, and I can hardly wait.

I've payed one before at a guitar shop, a hardtail rosewood SS. I just loved the feel of the guitar. The neck was so sweet, and the balance of the axe was unbelieveable. Though I didn't care for the look of the all rosewood model, plus I wanted a tremolo. So I passed on that one.

I found a nice blue colored SS, with vintage tremolo.
What do you all think, was this a friggin good deal or what?

I have a couple quesitons,
I will be able to date the guitar with a serial # right? Where is the serial number? In the Bridge or Control Cavity?

Would you guys call that a flame or quilt top?

I think I read that you can't use the gunstock oil on rosewood fingerboards right? What is the best way to care for the fingerboard?

First off....that is one beautiful axe...really.

- The serial number can be found on the chrome neck plate on the back of the guitar (surrounded by 5 screws)

Too bad I can't make out the serial number from the pictures. I know, just like a kid in a candy store, can't even wait till I get it home...LOL.

I also wanted to ask if anyone has trouble keeping Theirs in tune when using the standard MM tremolo? My Strat has been horrible of late, so bad that I've resigned to blocking the tremolo.

I really wanted one with a Floyd Rose, but couldn't find one I could afford.

Very nice ASS! Congrats. And welcome to the forums. I see that you wanted one with a Floyd. But I think you'll end up liking the trem that's on this one. It's very stable. And a joy to play.

I had a Strat that never stayed in tune when I used the trem, so I know where you are coming from. The EBMM trem works great, unless you wank around like there is no tomorrow, it stays in tune very well. It's much more convenient than Floyd Rose for string changes and alt tunings I might add.

It's funny, I was actually planning on buying that guitar and you had beat me to it. It's trully a beauty and you don't see many Blue ASS quilts with rosewood boards out there, so congrats! In reference to the vintage trem, I actually have both the Floyd and the vintage trem Axis models and I trully prefer the vintage trem over the Floyd. Especially, since the ASS has the Schaller locking tuners, which are awesome!

Thanks all, FedEx estimates Thursday for delivery. I seriously can't wait. I've been checking the tracking number at their site like every hour...like it would actually make it get here faster....

I actually got outbid on another one just a couple days before. A really nice Cherry Burst. I waited till about 15 seconds left and put in my bid, but before I even hit submit, someone else had already outbid me..
I think that means I was meant to have this one.

Woo Hoo, My ASS came in today. A whole day early.
Unfortunately I picked it up on my lunch hour so I had very little time to spend with my new baby.

The color looks Greener than the pictures. Like a Tuquoise, anyone know what color that would be?

But it is absolutely flawless, looks almost brand new except for some dust around the tremolo and pickup cavities. Not even any belt rash, or pick scuffs.

I see no noteable fret wear which tells me it hasn't been played much and has been well cared for. But again, that was only about a 2 minute inspection.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

I am definately in love with this guitar.
It's older than my strat, yet it's in much better condition.
I can spot only 2 very small minor flaws.
One you can see in the picture of the headstock, just above the nut between A and E strings. Not terrible.
The other is a very small scuff on the side, right about where the armpit goes. It's not really even a scratch, I can't feel it when running my fingernail accross it. But it does'nt rub out either.
Other than that, it's flawless. Not even a little buckle rash or pick scratches.
I see absolutely no noteable fretwear.
Which tells me it hasn't been played very much.

But I love the unfinished waxed neck. It is so smooth like silk.
