Decisions, decisions....

So, with the hints of the new Dargie's... pain has set in... and I need opinions.

This is all in my fantasy world... because I really don't have the spare $$$ lying around for any of these but I am sure going to try.

What should go next on the wanted list? These are my initial thoughts.... it just feels wrong to put frets on an ebony board though....

Dargie Delight 2 Big Al

The Big Al is cool... funky and a triple single coil... but I'm not sure if this is duplicating a bit of what is to come with the 25th.

Dargie Delight 2 Bongo 4HSp Fretless

Bongo HSp Fretless, with an Ebony board... 'nuff said.

Dargie Delight 2 Bongo 4HSp Fretted

Do I really want frets?

Dargie Delight 2 Stingray 4HSp Fretless

Stingray in DD, with a blank plank... I've got one that I love right now, should I consider trading it in for the HSp with an ebony board?

Dargie Delight 2 Stingray 4HSp Fretted

Again... frets?

20th Anniversary SR5

These are gorgeous... and it would re-introduce the whole 5th string back in to my life.

BFR Redwood SR4

Its a 1000 year old Redwood top, for crying out loud.

Or something else?

Did I miss something obvious for the list?

I voted DD2 Bongo 4HSp fretless - 'cos that's what I would have - well, first anyway, before I bought each of the others of course :D

for you id recommend: dd2 bongo 4hp

that will complement what you got nicely :)
go fretless if you wanna be bold :D

edit:
for once i just posted a reply instead of reading what others posted.. i guess i should have stuck to my usual habits :)
ill still stand by my recommendation, it will be different from your other basses :)

also: there is a blank plank 30th sr4 in the for sale thread.. dirt cheap too
a lil piece of mahogany and stringthrough history made in 783 exemplaries in total. there cant be many blank planks of those ;)

Did Stingrays and Sterlings come in HSp's? I thought you could only get them in an Hp? Just curious. JOSH

I am leaning heavily towards the fretless Bongo, but the Al intrigues me too.. I want to own a BFR and 20th one day too though... As always, I appreciate the feedback. BP hurt me with that announcement :)

Edit:
I have no idea whether the HSp is an option on the 'Ray.... I just assumed it was.... but am probably wrong. I am still a noob after all. :)

MrM, why Hp vs. HSp on the Bongo? I've been thinking about a single H but was reserving that for the 20th or BFR.

I saw the 30th, and am still VERY tempted by it. The 20th with the Quilt top on ebay hurt me a bit inside too. This really is an addiction... and expensive one at that. :)

because its the bongo big poppa style ;)

MrM

ps: i got both the 30th sr4 and the 20th sr5.. both are awesome basses!
one thing to be aware of though: the 30th has a finished neck.. if thats no biggie for you its one sweet sounding bass. smack on some roundwounds and hear that baby sing! :D

Thanks for all the input!

I think this is narrowed down to:

1) Bongo HSp Fretless (most likely blank plank... but I'll take suggestions there too)
2) Big Al
3) BFR Redwood SR4

In that order.

I dig neck PUPs too much to be like BP right now.... but maybe someday. The 30th and 20th are both gone to other homes too.

Wait, you've had a dargie bongo HS fretless before havn't you?

Maybe you should go Al if that is the case. Personally, I'd Bongo it up.

Was it you with the DD Bongo HS?

Yes, yes I did. But it has since gone to live with another forumite.

Really if it wasn't for the Ebony board I would probably be able to pass this up, or go for the Al, but DD HSp Fretless with an Ebony board is cryptonite. And I kinda miss the Bongo too :). It just seems like such a shame to put frets on an Ebony board. Plus the first Dargie didn't have the Piezo, which I really did want on the fretless... and at the time I just couldn't part with the 'Ray... it is just a special instrument that plays better than anything I have ever touched thus far.... perhaps, money permitting, the new DD2 might... but that has yet to be seen.

Bongo DD2 HSp fretless with that clean unlined ebony board - go on, you know you want one ;)

Putting it that way just makes it sound so sexy....

And yes, yes I do. We have a winner. The Al will have to wait.

Made that certain special call just a few minutes ago. :) Now I can't wait... but am glad for a little bit of a time cushion to manifest the $$$ to pay for her.

Thanks for all the help and input, it really helped me solidify what I was thinking/wanting. You all kick hiney.
