Hello forumites.
Maybe not everyone knows, but Petrucci has stopped using the custom dimarzio and the dsonic, and is now using 2 pickups that have been designed by him and dimarzio: the LiqiFire in neck position and the CruchLab in bridge position.
What I would like to know is if these pickup's will be put in new JP's that come out of the factory, or if they will continue with the custom and the dsonic, because I would like to get a bfr, but I'd like to hear these pickup's since I don't really like the dsonic too much.
Thanks to anybody who will reply

in Hell... with cows...
i just took a look at the specs. the bridge pup loses a chunk of treble and a bit of mids. the neck pup loses a HUGE chunk of bass and i think some treble. i am dead curious to find out how this sounds in practice. i've heard the album, which rocked, but i stilll need to see it in person.

afaik, the guitars change with john's own choices. how long it takes before the changes are effective on guitars sold to the general public is unknown to me.

I listend to the new album and I could clearly hear something different in his tone, I had no idea he changed pickup's though, I was thinking about mark 1 setting on the mark 5, with a little boost.
I'm really curious to hear how these pickup's sound in real life though

They are on the DiMarzio site and available in both 6 and 7 string configurations obviously. The Liquifire is under the Medium Power pickups section, and the Crunch Lab is in the High Power section.

Shucks, the first of my two new BFR's is arriving next week it would have been cool to have these.

I didn't know about these until now. Interesting. I wonder which way he has the Crunch Lab in his 7-strings. I assume EBMM will eventually put them in. He also seems to be preferring Ebony fretboards. Or maybe he just really likes his Dargie 2.

Damn, I wanna see an audio comparison between both pairs

Sorry Ed, the DiMarzio site says they only come in the righty version, I guess we're out of luck. Note the description.

Well if EMBB makes the switch I hope they can find a way to put them in lefties...that would make my JP7 more diverse from my JP6, even though all rosewood vs ebony on maple will be different enough.

I'm assuming your kidding, but sarcasm is so hard to detect online so I apologize if I'm wrong, but you realize I photoshopped that text, right? I don't want people to become genuinely confused.

Great, now you given Dizzy and the other separatists more ammo. :D

So will he use the Crunch Lab with the solid bar facing the neck, the way the D-Sonic does on his 6 strings? That's what I took from the description on Dimarzio's site...

Literally just saw this. They look pretty neat; I love his rhythm tone this time around; just purely focused tightness.
