Playing slide on an ASS

Whilst it is likely to be a while before I can play again as before I thought I'd take a look at learning a bit of slide while the finger is healing. I thought I'd elect my ASS MM90 to be my chosen axe to set up for the purpose, particularly as it has the piezo which I thought would give me some of those great acoustic slide tones. Does anyone else play slide on their EBMM's ?. What guage strings do you use ? what type of slide do tou use ? do you raise the action, and if so what other adjustments do you make to the guitar ? What tuning ? any recommended books, DVD's to start me off ? any advice / suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Yep I play slide a lot live, on my AL's or MM90 ASS, I raise the action slightly, not too much. I use 10's and have a glass slide, I play in normal tuning. My favourite slide players are Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson and Brett Garsed, and Johnny Hiland.

i TRY to play slide, and I'm still not great at it, but I have plenty of fun trying. Since I'm just dabbling I don't setup guitars for it special, and I think learning the control to keep the slide from pressing too hard and dinging on the frets with a regular action has actually been really good for my techinical development with it. I find that the flatter the radius the better- my JP is much easier to slide on than my SS (which I believe has the same radius as an Axis, correct me if I'm wrong), where it can sometimes be hard to get the low E ringing clearly without pressing the D or G out of tune. EB piezos do sound great playing slide, total Delta mode. I love it!

I don't mess around with alternate tunings too often, though I do like open A because the E and A strings are the same as standard so i don't get lost on the fretboard as easily haha.

Hey Kev! The ASS ought to sound great. Since were doing a couple songs with slide, I've got a LP Deluxe (Xmas gift from parents in 1973) set up kind of high with EB coated 11's. You might be able to get by with the setup you've got if you've got a light touch. I've tried all kinds of slides-brass, chromed steel, glass-but I am using a short thick-walled glass Dunlop on my ring finger. I think it's a #218. I only play in open E, but other tunings are good too. I pick with my fingers and use them to mute the strings I'm not playing. Hello

I play slide with my EBMM in normal tuning. I use 10's gauge and I did not raise the action. I use a brass slide on my pinkie (a medium size Dunlop I believe. It's wide enough for sliding on 3 strings).
There is a book written by Warren Hayes if you want to learn slide in normal tuning. I don't own it but I have seen it in a shop and it looks interesting.

Thanks Guys...I've been messin around this morning. Put a set of 10's and raised the action a little. I have a very heavy brass slide that I got years ago, but I thinks it's too weighty for me. Should be driving again next week so I will try a glass one when I'm out and about near a music store. I need to learn a few patterns. Tuned to Open E at the moment but will try some other tunings. at least in E I can relate to where the route notes are

Slide with a Super Sport?

Yes. I usually string 'em up with 10s, standard tuning, and using a brass slide. Works nicely thru a Carmen Ghia and/or Z-28 with a 210 cab

Effects? Sometimes a little bit of compression. Sometimes a little bit of chorus. and, quite often some boost from a Flying Dragon

Instructional/inspirational vids? Try some Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Joe Walsh, Danny Gatton and Sonny Landreth for a little while. All good stuff.

I´m not a good slide player, but sometimes I use the AL for it. I personally like Single Coils for sliding more than HB´s.

Non EBMM, but a great and underrated slide player is Chris Rea

I have a hard time getting a slide that fits me.
I have very long boney skinny fingers and they just don't fit.

I was hoping to get a hoolahan slide that would fit my fingers but now found it yet.
I like the idea of being able to switch between normal playing and slide without having to put it down.
