Hi guys!

I have a problem with my John petrucci musicman 6 mystic dream guitar. The strings dont even last 3 weeks on the guitar and keep snapping at the same area which is at the bridge (it happens with any of the strings). I have taken it to several guitar shops to have it serviced but the problem still occurs. It is really frustrating as it is such a great guitar. I am wondering if any of you guys could help me! It would be great if anybody could help me out! I use Super slinky strings which are gauge 9-46!

Thanks

Stephen

I have had the same problem with my Silhouette Special. Maybe not every 3 weeks, but rather often I break a string at the bridge. I sent it to SLO and it was found to be ok. Later, I changed to Graphtec 'string saver' saddles, but still have the same issue.

I wonder now if it is just technique.

Dude, I replace strings once a week? I am a professional guitarist but. how often do you play that guitar?
I am a classical guitarist at RSAMD but play in an alt rock/prog band and I cant trust the guitar because the strings snap very easily. I really should change my strings more often but they should be able to last more than 3 weeks. I change my strings approx once every month. What guitar do you play?

How do they break- does the ball come off the end? (In which case try the RPS strings)? Or do they unravel/snap at the saddle? Does it happen on all of the strings? Or just a particular string?

Could be something simple like a burr on the saddle or rubbing elsewhere, or could be related to something else. If you can try and narrow it down a bit, CS should be able to get you sorted out pretty quickly.

It snaps at the ball part of the string at the bridge. Someone told me to use the RPS strings so I am going to try that. Its any of the strings. I took it to a guitar service shop and they couldn't narrow the bridge down because the piezo pickup is in the bridge. Thanks for help man!

IT just gets weird when you ask strangers for advice on a gutiar they have never seen...IF everybody with a cs problem posted here and then went off and tried all of the internet fixes we always end up with the guitar anyway and have to undo most of the stuff...we are here for you just not on the forum. thanks so much

I've found that string breakage is usually due to an issue with technique. Maybe you're picking too hard, or at a strange angle that the strings aren't designed to withstand. I think if the saddles were to blame, it'd happen quicker than three weeks.
