Thanks for showing that.

Cool stuff! Always nice to know something more about the instruments we all love and play.

So, this may be a stupid question, but my SR5H has a humbucker similar to the Sterling, ie the phantom coil under the two main coils. How does the SR5 HH work? DO both have the phantom coils, or is it even necessary?

On HH models the phantom coil is not needed IIRC.

I realized this after thinking about it... there's no true single coil setting on the HH... dual-single coil settings, and that right there would be enough to kill the hum.

About the submerged phantom-coil in the SR.

Here is a guy who has actually brought this phantom coil to daylight making his Stingray a HSS model:

You might have seen this video before. It's probably one of you guys. Who is it?

Interesting option IMHO.

Sure, it's techinically an HSS, but works pretty much like an HH, right? All of the Single Coil settings use the middle dummy coil, so if it's up with the rest of them, it's putting out a signal at the same time, thus it's a humbucker. Granted the positioning is different, but there aren't any single coil options with the dummy coil raised.

Sure.
There are no singlecoil-options left.

But apart from the different pickup-position it also offers a unique option that a HH model doesn't offer:
The Bridge coil + dummy.

And it looks pretty cool imo.

I'm sure EB did their research and designed the HS for a reason the way the are.

Anyway:
If i had a HS i would definitely like to hear that. Considering that for a test all you have to do is to unscrew the PG and squeeze a bit of foam under that PU.
And if one comes to the conlusion that it's not desireable, its back to its original state within minutes.

I'm just a curios person, thats all. :p

I remember clearly (having mentioned this before and been told off for it too) that Mr. BP said that, although it obviously works as single coil, that dummy pickup has not been voiced to fuinction as a pickup but only as a dummy and so I take his word for it because I believe he knows what he is talking about.

This is very useful to know - and it would save me from a major shock if I buy an HS Stingray and take the pick guard off.

I have an H Stingray 5 and with the toggle in the centre position, it produces single coil with phantom coil for hum cancelling - where is the phantom coil for this? Presumably under the humbucker??
