I'm idly planning out my second out bass purchase - I'm selling a bunch of stuff to buy a bass from a friend already, so I figure I'll keep on going, sell more and order the Sterling 5 I want in a few months.

I don't have anything in red right now. I was thinking Black Cherry Burst, but Cabernet Pearl has caught my eye. I've never seen it in real life and have seen damn few pictures; searching the color thread for "Cabernet" turns up zero hits. I've found a few others on the forum, but photos of the color seems to vary wildly.

The Sterling 5 will be maple and probably a single H. Does anybody have any pics they can offer up? Pickguard suggestions?

The color is very hard to capture with a camera and I haven't seen a picture that does it justice. The way the horn looks in the picture of the neck is probably the most accurate. I like a black guard with Cabernet Pearl.

i think the best place to look is theperfectbass.com for some good pics, though i much prefer black cherry burst. Looks good in any light, whereas you have to get cabernet pearl in the right light for it to look good.

The Cabernet Pearl almost seems brown under some light, and you're right - BCB always looks great! I think it would work well with maple, too.

One of my favorite colors! There aren't too many pics out there that really do Cabernet Pearl justice. I would go with a black pickguard...but I'm also not into anything fancy as far as pickguards go...and with a color as rich as Cabernet....It doesn't need anything else to compliment it.

I really need to see Cabernet Pearl in person. Man, I wish they still did Rolls Burgundy - that was one of my favorites.

Isn't it nice that my hardest decision will be something silly like color?

^ Add one string to that and you have my dream Bongo.

+1 to that - with the Gamechanger fitted of course

Agree with Jack - Markbass99's CP bongo looked stunning, definitely one of my favourite colours, although I'm also with Mogee on the black pickguard for it rather than barenekkid

Cabernet pearl is a great finish that is very hard to photograph, it is a fine wine with subtle metal flake grains that will reflect back as shown in Slingy's second pic. If you were fortunate to get one with a full rosewood neck (like Mingusbass) you scored big, great combination of colors that compliment each other well.

Those of you that have seen Cabernet Pearl in the flesh - how does it compare to Fender's Midnight Wine in color/tone (I know Fender's isn't sparkle)?

If you liked Rolls Burgundy, imagine a little more red and throw in some sparkles.

Cabernet Pearl is what Rolls wishes it could be.

I saw a Big Al in one in Florida this week. Its a very classy colour.
