I got the Joe Satriani concert DVD in my netflix yesterday and I am thrilled to see this is a concert recent enough to include Dave LaRue.
If you don't know you better ask some one.
This is the go to guy for:
Joe Satriani
John Petrucci
and Steve Morse
And you don't get to do that by being pretty.

As far as nice guys go this guy is the tops. I have had occasion to email him at his web site and I was always amazed at how quick he responded personally. I bought one of his books from his website and he also sent a signed letter of thanks and a Dave LaRue pick. (Those are really rare BTW)

If you get the music book and learn any song (A lot of the music is from the Steve Morse Band) everything else you do will be easy by comparison and you will become a better bass player. Period.

Should a EBMM guitar concert with all the EBMM guitar artists come to fruition, picking a bass player will be the easy part.

Also if you want a Blue Dawn all you have to do is be Dave LaRue :) (Paraphrased without permission from a quote from Sterling Ball)

He is a VERY serious bad-ass and also one hell of a nice human being.

I kept needling him one day about how EBMM puts stuff in his basses that they don't put in mine. He went along with it for a while, magic pixie dust, mojo, that sort of thing, but you know what he eventually said?

"You know what's in my bass? A life of practice."

I said, "Damn, I knew it was something hard."

Dave La Rue is an awesome guy. Had an opportunity to chat with him at various EBMM Forum "Conferences". ;)

Very cool and down to earth - one of the real good guys.

Also took advantage of my free time during my sampling of "early retirement" two years or so ago and began a series of correspondence courses with Dave. How cool is that - Dave La Rue as your bass teacher!? Learned more from him in 10 months than I had learned in my lifetime of bass playing.

And as if that's not enough, my wife thinks he's adorable. :p
