I walked into Guitar Center today and noticed a Stingray 5 HH in Black Cherry Burst with mother of pearl inlays. Nothing else seemed different, but the tag had "45th Anniversary" in the description. The fretboard seemed a little dark - not sure if it's ebony or not (I haven't had any personal experience with ebony).

It would be cool to hear the official story on these basses!

I haven't heard of any special EBMM models for the Guitar Center 45th Anniversary, but it's possible. Other builders are making very cool models for the event. I'd love to see the bass in question.

It would be even cooler to hear the official story on that price tag.

;)

I was just going to post a thread on this. I too found one yesterday at GC. The fret board did look like ebony. Can anyone confirm. It obviously sounded wonderful and gave me GAS.

The price tag was $1995 IIRC...

In hindsight, I should have pulled out the blackberry and snapped a pic. Just imagine a normal Stingray 5 HH black cherry burst with the DD2 inlays and an ebony fretboard, and you'll probably imagine what I saw (which is a pretty sweet package). I would have played it but there wasn't any easily available places to plug in (they were all taken). I was hoping there was a Big Al or 25th in stock so I could check them out, but no dice. Maybe next time.

Just got the new GC flier in the mail. It shows an 45th SR4 and SR5. Here are the complete specs listed in the flier.

Ash body, black cherry burst finish

Maple neck, ebony fretboard, custom pearl dot inlays with abalone center

Music Man chrome - plated hardened steel bridge with stainless steel saddles

Dual humbuckers with active electronics

4-string features the slimmer profile Sterling neck

It looks like there is the 45th Anniversary logo on the headstock.

That's the SLO Special did you see the 45th anniversary by any chance?
That's the headstock of the 45th anniversary StingRay SLO special. So you're right, it's an SLO, but it is also a 45th anni.

Sorry, I'm really bad with photo editing. But I hope this picture will explain it.
