Just saw Dream Theater last night in Boston with Progressive Nation and, I must say it was quite awesome and filled with top notch musicianship.
Heres my quick overview:
Scale the Summit - Was a very good band and they deserved much more than a three song set.
Big Elf - IMO didn't fit in with the other bands at all. Some of their songs were cool but just wasn't right for me and this band should have gotten the three song set and gave their 5 or 6 song set to Scale the Summit.
Zappa P Z - I didn't think I was going to like it but all I can say is that they pleasantly surprised me. They had quite a long set and that music was about as progressive as you could get. Just pure awesomeness. It was funny though, he ended of getting a short in his Gibs** and it was making all sorts of noises when he wasn't playing. But he made good fun of it. I know its an important guitar for him but, he should get a ball.
Dream Theater - Last but not least was obviously DT and their set list was awesome. Surprisinly though, JP didn't play his DD2
, but he did play the stealth and the other new one, forgot the correct color term for it but it's a little lighter than the tobacco burst with the veneer I guess. Anyways they were all stunning guitars as usual.
Heres pretty much how the setlist went, its not exact:
1.) A Nightmare to Remember
2.) A Rite of Passage
3.) Hollow Years
4.) Solitary Shell - which was a crazy extended version
5.) Prophets of War
6.) The Dance of Eternity
7.) In the Name of God
8.) The Count of Tuscany
Heres a few pics of JP and guitars. Unfortunately the camera decided to have a problem right when the show starts but, I still got a few!
