I have had to apologize to my Bongo for the last 2 hours for an error of judgement, when I should have attempted to eliminate other possible causes, but instead I assumed that there was something wrong with my Bongo. And I was wrong!!

What happened was, that I was experiencing some crackling and sound loss every time the jack cord was moving around the socket, it was even worst when I was wiggling the cord by by hand or playing sitting down... my mistake was to immediately assume the bass socket was faulty... I removed the battery cover to see if a wire was disconnected and all seemed perfect... then it occurred to me that perhaps it was the cord that was faulty, so I plugged in another one and ahhh bliss!! no more noise, not even by pulling the cord sided to side.

In my defense the faulty cord is one of those Planet Waves shrink wrapped ones and I never thought it could go wrong but it did.

I feel embarassed now but at the same time I am very relieved that I don't have to send my bass to Pete at Strings & Things anymore and waste their time for nothing.

Damn I still feel sooo silly though! Oh and don't feel sorry for me, I don't deserve it.

Don't feel bad, I have the same planet waves cable and the same thing, it went bad. When trouble shooting try the least expensive piece in the equation first. Usually a cable.

I had a Planet waves cable die on me a few months ago that was about 10 years old. I figured on not getting much service.
I went to their website, shot them an email. They sent me a return authorization #. I mailed the cable and 2 weeks later I opened my mailbox to find a brand new cable :)
Totally worth the miniscule effort to contact them and mail it. Needless to say I am very pleased.

I don't think I will chase a replacement. This cable... sorta fell on my lap after a gig, we were playing a venue with 3 other bands and someone from the previous band left it in my amp, never claimed it back, besides, a few people here already had their planet waves cables going wrong, so I am going to get a couple of Ernie Ball ones from Pete at Strings and Things.

Send it to me!!

I've got loads of spare jack plugs, you can never have enough leads.

Off to Youtube now to find more UHF clips, not seen that for ages, class!
