can i just say bovine i am a musicman owner also and although the bass i was on about was fender product, the idea of ageing a bass is one that could be applied to any bass including a musicman so i disagree its to off topic!anyway isnt anything thats not related to a musicman product classed as 'off topic'?thats the funniest thing ive heard its too far off topic!i thought this forum was for musicman users aswell as musicman products, just a thought!

BUT...You were talking about a Fender bass not a Music Man and people felt it was OK to post pictures of their old Fenders on a forum that is paid for by Ernie Ball Music Man. That kind of discussion is more appropriate at talkbass.com, which is an open forum where you can talk about all bass gear. Plus, it is a much larger forum, you'll get more advice. Calm down...

It's not a question of whether or not the concept can be applicable to 'any' bass, including a Music Man. It's always about whether the subject matter is appropriate for the manufacturer's official forum. In this case, with all the Fender photos being trotted out to display the actual and/or induced relic look, I felt it was straying too far into other manufacturer's products.

In any case, if I close a thread or moderate a post and the member in question wants an explanation, the good way to handle it is to send me a PM.

The bad way to approach a closed thread is to start another thread.

And understand this on PMs: I get a LOT of them. Sometimes I have the time and motivation to explain in further detail and sometimes I don't.

I don't think I generally come across as heavy-handed, but this is an opinion and we all know about those.

You know you are doing a forum right when members feel comfortable to post and then feel that seven degrees of Kevin Bacon game applies....The first jazz Bass sort of doomed the thread......Lets talk about fenders relics and suggest that you can relic a music man and then we can post pics......

Also if you get a thread closed it is not calling your mamma fat...its a forum that you pay nothing for that wants different content than you brought this time. NOthing personal and let it go

Regarding relicing -
If you like the look, get one bass, and play it. A LOT. Carelessly. In smoky bars.
If you don't like the look, get a lot of basses and play them carefully.

I just thought it was funny

Also if you get a thread closed it is not calling your mamma fat...

I did want to edit the post in a quote in attempt to make myself the butt (pun intentional) of the joke. Well maybe next time.

How's it hanging Maddog!?

I'm playing in the GC competition Thursday. Man that is just exciting. Even with as little as I have been playing several of the other good guitar players expect me to play in the finals again.

Everybody should go the their local GC Thursday night to check out the King of the Blues fun they have going on there. This event is like one of the last great community efforts left in America.
GO!

I must have heard the Ernie Ball name mentioned at least 10 times last Thursday. It made me feel proud every time I heard it. I'll go see if I can revive the thread for this on the guitar side.

Although I am quite enjoying the hijack here. :)

I haven't been on here in a couple days..... I guess I should start by offering an appology as I am the one who posted the Jazz bass picture..... I meant nothing by it, only to show that the only real way to relic a bass is by letting time take it's course. I am fairly new here, and haven't really got the full concept of right from wrong. I assure you that as an owner of 5 Stingray basses.....I am a dedicated MUSICMAN supporter. So to BP, and all others on the forum here please forgive me for stepping over the bounds by posting that picture.
