So what's the deal on Y2D BFRs ?

I think they are no BFRs in the common sense which means they do not have the tone block.

But they do have the BFR rosewood neck option. That's why it reads BFR on the necks.

Somebody to correct me if I'm wrong.

Despite some exceptions (Koa Tops), the BFR models feature a block of solid mohagony that is inserted into the wood of the guitar's body. This is called a toneblock and it reaches from the neck pocket to the bridge in order to give more sustain and slightly focused mids.
After the toneblock is glued into the body the whole thing is covered by a figured maple top.

The BFRs are whatever EB wants them to be, having a mahogany tone block is not a requirement. The first BFRs in regular production do have the tone block (BFR JP, BFR Luke, BFR AL, BFR Sterling, BFR StingRay), and because of that a lot of people think that if it doesn't have a tone block then it's not a real BFR.

Don't worry, that is not the case!

The Gold Roller, Double Neck, Koa JP and Koa Luke do not have the tone block but are regular production BFR models. For a month in 2008 you could order a BFR rosewood neck on everything (except the Bongo 6), which instantly made the instrument a BFR. Say, for example, you ordered a Silhouette Special with rosewood neck - it's a BFR! It would have the normal Alder body, with an all rosewood neck. There is no tone block, but it is still a BFR.

The instruments that do have a tone block have a piece of mahogany sandwiched in the body under a maple top. It goes from the neck pocket to the tailpiece, and is similar in shape to a vodka bottle.

Wasn't the Y2D, really like the first BFR (without the tone block)?

Oh man, what is it about the combo of a white MM guitar with that RW neck? Colin, that Morse is HOT! I've seen an AL, a Silo Special (Rob's), a JP and now a Morse in that color combo and they're all beautiful. Something makes me think I've seen a Luke as well. OK, now I REALLY feel like a failure for sleeping on those BFR RW necks. :(

There was also a RW necked Y2D in the States ... think it's been snagged.

When in doubt, the EBMM customer service guys can help you find a guitar in your neck of the woods. Shoot them an email :)

With or without the RW neck ... the Y2D is an unbelievable guitar. It's pretty much perfect.

My two cents ... the Y2D was made in conjunction with Steve, to be an anniversary model. Killer guitar, the evolution of a production model.

Whereas the 20th Silo was something that came out of the lab ... the mad scientists whipped up what they thought was super cool and innovative.

So in that respect, offering us a limited sneak peak at that new design kinda makes the 20th the first BFR.

Colin, it bugs me that you have two RW BFR Morses and that no one has bought one.

SOME ONE BUY THOSE!
I originally had 4 rw's come thru 2 have gone 1 is for the vault so I only have 1 left. I just can't get enough stock to keep up with demand so I have to leave some on the website otherwise it would be bare. I 'm even starting to sell some of my personal collection to keep up with demand until my ordered stock arrives

Rosewood BFRs

Today I went to the Kirkland, Washington Guitar Center, and they had:

* A used Y2D, in Purple Sunset, with tremolo ($1300)
* A new white Petrucci rosewood neck BFR 6-string
* A new black Luke rosewood neck BFR

So the rosewood necks must be more common than you'd expect.

I probably would have bought the Y2D, but I don't want the trem.
