What I wonder is if the actual *neck* has been switched or if we're just talking fret boards?

No, it was definitely the entire neck - three times. This was while he was out of my control, so I have no idea where those necks came from or where the other ones went.

When Horace called me to ask if I wanted Heinz back, I initially said no because I thought it still had the fretless neck. He said he'd found a fretted rosewood and had changed it out and the bass played better than ever. I found that hard to believe, but what the hell.

So it left with the maple neck, went through all these transmogrifications, and eventually did come back, playing better than ever. Color me surprised.

The last big gig for Heinz with me. He even got on the tee-vee here locally.

(Note my red security blanket Bongo behind me. I'm chicken!)

Fran, body is marked dec 6 1999, bass is officially a 2000 model and the body is ash, stamped "TRANS" in what I think is a selection made when the bodies are cut. The PU is ceramic.
It sounds just about the same as any other real nice SR5, but it's got heaps of mojo from Jack, Dr Stankface and others. Plus, it IS a rather striking colour, isn't it?
