Welcome! The Big Al is the best bass I have tried lately. Very cool. I will have to wait to buy one though.

I got a chance to play one at GC lastnight when I bought my new SR5. The Big AL is a tone monster......I just can't get used to the design of it though. Then again I felt the way about the Bongo when they first came out. I thought they looked like a toilet seat...... Now even though I don't currently own a Bongo..... I have had three of them in the past, and have been thinking about a Candy Red 5 string. I think the only MUSICMAN bass that I really don't see myself ever buying would be the Sterling. Just because I'm not a fan of the neck. Now....... If they put a Stingray neck on it.....I may change my tune.....lol

Since Thomann has been mentioned before you can also try the Big Al and some other music man basses at Musik Schmidt in Frankfurt. They have a good homepage where you can check the stock...

Thanks, guys, will look into it!

Tomorrow I'm going to give Soundland a try, who at least seem to have one 4 string Bongo on their wall. Thomann, Musik Schmidt & Co are going to be a serious hit on time and budget ... as of now Station Music would be my favorite of the "long distance sheep runs".

Someone should get this on Tape: Indiana Sheep and the Quest for the Desert Gold Bongo ... or something like that :D

Basscake, that's thrilling! I have been to the store in Karlsruhe, at least got myself a set of Super Slinkys there, but no luck with a Bongo or Big Al. But I'd be happy to try your Stingrays, I really need to collect more impressions! Thanks!

Cheers, Stephen

Oh, well ... this is going to take a while, I'm afraid.

I have been to Soundland yesterday and got my hands on a HS Bongo 4 Stringer, very nice indeed and surprisingly light weight! When I asked about the Big Al, the sales guy told me they were not going to stock them, because it was "too much of a risk". Besides that the guy at the front desk pulled one remarkable stunt in the "Don't bother me with anything customer related" department, that was bold enough to drive me out the doors and strike that store off my list.

Next, I tried and called Station Music, who were quite nice on the phone, but unsure about the Big Al. The head guy of the bass department is on holiday, so I'll wait till he is back. Mid September I'll give them another try.

Cheers, Stephen

I am sorry and am forwarding this thread to Musik Meyer...It is ot their fault...The economic climate has made the dealers so safe that they are killing themselves and dont know it.....

Wherever you shop for your EBMM. You should drop in that shop anyway.....

Biggest playground around...

Big Poppa, just WOW! Thank you!

Philipp, mail is on it's way, thanks in advance!

Basscake, yupp, you are right ... I'm new (again) in shopping for an instrument and had forgotten just how unaccessible (or downright annoying) some sales guys can be. Well, if you look around long enough, eventually there is always one who understands himself as someone who sells instruments instead of a treasure keeper. To me, the folks at Station Music will be those guys. ;)

Cheers, Stephen
