So, I happen to experiment with strings quite often. I was looking for a little more thump from my SR4 H, and tried various strings....Black Beauties, XL's, and even EB Flats....still wasn't happy. I suddenly remembered having a set of Power Slinkys in my music related "junk drawer"....Oh Man....These are the strings for this bass. I absolutely love the tone....it's the perfect match.

Just sharing....any other Power Slinky users out there?
:D

I hear ya!
I just changed the strings on my Bongo.I'm a Super Slinky user myself. But it is amazing the tonal change from a worn out set of strings to a fresh set. Although there are those Cats out there that love the "worn out/broken in/dead" sound. I much prefer the new string ZING. I've also found over the years that Musicman Basses just seem to sound better with Ernie Ball strings on them(funny how that works). My own opinion of course. Now all I need is an endorsement. Big Poppa you out there? :)

I know what you mean Buster.

EB's are usually shipped with md/lt strings with a .100 E string....from what I've read. Personally I prefer a heftier set of strings....always have. I'm not a finesse player!! lol

I swear, I wish I was though.

On a Stingray, I like Regular Slinky strings 105-50
The slightly larger strings deliver a little more fundamental... which (IMO) balances nicely with the growl.

They do.
For several years I tried several different stuff. I figured it's more about gauges than brands.
Especially 125 B combined with a 105 E doesn't work at all.
It made the E string way too dominant and the LowB sort of disappeared.

The Slinkys have a comparatively fat B-String and a rather light E and A. Gives you a very even sound across all strings. Suddenly the LowB and the top strings where there again.
Of course there are other brands that work as well, but the slinkys are something to bank on. Great match.

Funny, I just experienced this today. I put a set of DR Nickel Loriders on my Sterling 5. I love those strings, use them all the time. But the old factory strings sounded better on the bass. They went back on. Geez... what do you guys PUT in those strings?

I've tried other strings my SR4 and SR5's, but nothing compares to how good the Slinkys sound on 'em. I like the Hybrid Steels on my SR4 and looking forward to getting a set of Coated Slinkys on the SR5.

I wish EB made a set of Hybrid Steels for an SR5, but I'm very happy rockin' the nickels.

I love my EB flats on my bongo at home, but the one Pete so generously lent has slinkys on I think, and they sound GREAT! I'm getting used to roundwounds again! What is different about the power slinkys? heavier gauge?

Heavier guage, but I like 'em because of the very full sound...nice lows!

^Looks like it will be top shelf from now on. I just put a fresh set of slinkys on my SR4 and
man it was like taking a blanket off my bass. Love Em, it now has that ZING back, just
in time for the gig tomorrow.
