I broke my collarbone skateboarding last August. Resulted in a frozen shoulder as well. Top that!

I was playing football (or Soccer if you prefer) - and I was letting the ball run to the keeper with my body sheilding the ball - this dickhead ran into the back of me and took me and the goalkeeper out.
I first got up and couldnt breath with an incredible pain in the ribs and later in my shoulder.
I went to the hospital and found out I had broken ribs and they said I had strained my shoulder and gave me painkillers.

After being signed off work for 2 months because I literally couldnt move my arm, and visits to GPs, Nurses, Specialists, Physio's and Surgeons - they finally found out that I had torn all of my rotator cuff muscles and also the impact of the fall had shattered a calcium build up on my shoulder and had calcium splinters in the actual torn muscles - so they couldnt move or heal.

Had an operation to remove the calcium splinters (with no anasteatic because the muscles contract) and took months of rehab to restore the strength in my arm - I didnt play guitar for about a year - I had to cancel live appearances and studio session work and missed alot of good opportunities.

In the not too distant past, I took up MMA, my mates think Im nuts!

Thanks for sharing, people....my dislocated pinky seems quite trivial compared to many of these injuries!! Ouch! Seems like I'm in good company!

most of my injuries are ex wife related, although I did chop off the side of my middle finger. Still had to keep gigging after it was stitched back on, totally changed the way I play. slowed my playing down immensely, probably a blessing in disguise

Are the lefties ostracized and marginalized in sports as much as they are here?

:D

Hey its a plus, no sporting injures to prevent you from playing gee-tar.

the ONLY thing I do right handed is hockey. It is quite common the shoot the opposite of your handiness, having your dominant hand at the top gives you more stick control but a weaker shot in general.Ironically shooting left handed can give you a huge advantage, especially if the goalie is right handed and the kids would always get more playing time cause they are usually rarer and can shoot from angles on the ice righties cant, so that always pissed me off, I get the southpaw curse and its not applicable the ONE time its a good thing..and Id like to think I was allright back in my prime, AAU West Coast National Champions, was sponsered by CCM (now owned by Reebok) and was ranked 6th fastest skater in my age group in Northen California...just wasnt quite good or big enough to pursuit it as a proffesion so guitar replaced it as my passion rather quickly

I was a goalkeeper in handball (dunno if americans know that sport, europeans do). which is VERY dangerous for fingers. luckily no serious damages, only some rupture of capsule. no more handball since a rupture of cruciate ligament - now only biking etc...

Not exactly a sporting injury, but - recently I have been re-arranging the downstairs of my house, during which time I had to move a baby grand piano(mahogany) from one room to another. Stupidly, I did not ask for help and tried to do it myself... Whilst trying to lift one side of said piano I tore my bicep muscle and needed to be rushed to casualty. I still played my Axis, but it was very uncomfortable and painful.

Reason I stopped playing basketball was my guitar / bass -playing. Kept bending my left-hand fingers back (even taped up) and as soon as they pretty much healed I'd strain them all over again.
