I see the Big Al is made of Alder. I see the sunburst finish is available so, unlike the Bongo, the grain in the wood looks nice. Any idea if the finshes might include natural or transparent colors in the future? Also, how does it look without the pickguard? I really like the look of a clear guard on the bongo.

Thanks Midopa. The workmanship behind the pickguard is incredibly clean

So I'll ask the probably dumb question: Why aren't the electronics done from the back like the Bongo?

They aren't back-routed for the same reason the 5H Stingray isn't routed from the back--the pickguard covers the area where the controls are located. It's not cost effective to route from both the front and back if it doesn't need to be done that way for the intended aesthetics of the instrument.

I'm sure the two pickup Stingrays are backrouted for ease of manufacture, and because they can reuse templates. But, there is no need to backroute on the Big Al because it is intended to be used with a pickguard like the SR5.
