I was thinking about picking up an SR4 to complement my SR5's. This new vintage model is definitely the one I'll be getting, and that sunburst is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm intrigued about the neck options that Dargin mentioned. Could someone provide more details on this choice and why someone would want the upgrade?

please we will tell you as soon as its final...you guys get the info before the dealers

Very true. It's fun when you ask a dealer for info on something & they're like, "that's gonna be available?". And I mean informed dealers, not the big box stores, where that's much more common.

i would want it just because it looks so good. There was a time in the 90ies when the necks where a lot of the stingray necks were nicely figuered and looked just great.

... told you I get most of my info right here from the same place you get yours! :D I love it though! Being a part of this forum puts a few of us dealers so far ahead of the other snoozers! :p (Thanks again to BP and crew for a great place to hang!)

brandt you are correct in my strategy...sleeping dealers have only themselves to blame

They are the ones that try to get sympathy blaming Guitar center for all their woes

The sneak peaks are great, it's like having your finger on the pulse...

BP, any shop owner with the "woe is me, there's another GC" mentality simply isn't trying hard enough.

I think I'm checking this thread for updates more obsessively than anything else before.

I was just looking back through this thread and saw this post. It occurred to me that this statement was pretty much true, but with one exception: the thread that was going on during the 25th's development. That was such a blast.

The reason this one has such a charge for me is not that I prefer the old to the new. I think it's largely just because it came as such a surprise. And of course the colors are way cool. And then there was Dargin's teaser about the figured neck option ...

Hook,line,sinker.

wow, just when I thought I got all the Stingrays i'll ever need to keep GAS at bay comes this...

sign me up to the radio knobs' mob, I want them too.
another thing I'd like to see is the cream pickup covers, they look classy on an ash/maple ray.

lastly, a skunk strip on maple necks. I guess that would raise the price since it's not an off the shelf part but if it wont then it would be a great addition to the overall vintage vibe.

edit: if going the whole nine yards with special production necks with skunk strips and laquer finish you might as well cancel the dot on the 22nd fret.

Preorder placed. For one exactly like this:

I wish this bass was rounded out with a few little things:

The old chrome battery cover, the battery box just looks too budget to me (god forbid we put a screw driver in our case!). And those back boxes are expensive to boot!

A normal bone nut

A Birdseye neck, the regular maple looks so "white" and cheap. I'd settle for a slight vintage tint.

I had a 1990 Black 3 band stingray with a Birdseye neck/board and Poplar body. Awesome bass, I curse the day I sold it.

I think it's awesome Ernie Ball is giving the customer what they want. It's good business.

Welcome, rwelcome. No offense, but it's apparent that you haven't read through the whole thread yet ... there are a few items in your wish-list that you might yet get. We'll find out soon.

Cool! Sorry to go over the same stuff. I was stoked and didn't read every page before posting. Go retro! But keep the spoke wheel truss rod!

Well, we'll have twins, then, assuming you take the figured neck option. But I know how you feel about lacquered necks. What a dilemma for you!

:D

Actually I don't want a figured maple neck. I've had less than stellar experiences with figured unfinished necks.

BUT I am with rwelcome and would like to have standard (not compensated) nut. Which is probably not going to happen for obvious production reasons.
