Why did EB stop using urethane finish on their stingray necks?

Was it urethane? I'm not so sure...was it a cost decision? Or did someone at the company decide that oil finished necks had some advantage over a sealed one?

The oil and wax necks feel better and they don't get sticky when your hands start to sweat.

we preferred the old finish and I dont know very many people who like a urethane...way thick and goopy

Laquer is really nice but not nice for the environment

And here I thought urethane and lacquer were the same thing...I use the word "urethane" because it sounds more technical.

Yeah the satin lacquer, really loved it on that bass, and it was a fretless too which made it even more nice.

Ahhhh, I can finally rest now. That lacquer stuff is not good for the environment. That was a question in my mind for a long time.

robo that is interesting but air quality here in california is really tough and when you think about it shouldnt it be? I think the idea is to produce a product that adds value to ones live without harming the world

there are companies that mill the wood in usa and then ship to Mexico to use the easier stuff and avoid the environmental issues.....

Sorry, I wasn't being critical of the way you run your business, so if you got that impression, it's the wrong one.

I live in a town where these services are readily available so maybe I came off as being sarcastic. I wasn't. As a matter of fact I'm planning on another stingray and this one will have a maple neck and it will get a neck satin re-finish. This is purely a personal decision; I think your instruments are the best out there.
