I just found out from my friend who is a dealer for Music Man basses that the finish I wanted for the bass I was saving for will be discontinued on October 15th. That color would be Olive Gold and not just that color but the Gold Swirl pickguard is being discontinued as well.

What I would like to know is what finishes are being discontinued over the next 4-6 months. It will take me that long to save for this bass since bills come first. I ask this that way when I have all my money saved and I get ready to order I will know what finishes and pickguards I will be able to choose.

Thank you so much for answering my question it is much appreciated.

I am pretty sure Bass Central takes deposits, and I think they have some of that color available.

Never mind I ended up calling Music Man and they were kind enough to send a list of discontinued finishes for the Stingray line of basses as well of what finishes they would still have. If you want the list just let me know.

bites? Bites is having to offer 26 colors and having nobody buying them and then complaining when we discontinue them....there are more colors coming but nobody offeres as many color options as us.

We didnt post this yet because of the whining that accompanies it. Thanks for taking the lead here.

Colors have to evolve and we have to figure this thing out

Be patient and maybe one of the newer colors will float your boat

I only meant just having to find another color bites not that I am not able to get the one I wanted. I understand that you have to get rid of the colors that just don't sell, so if I upset you I do apologize as it was not my intention. And there are a couple of colors I am still considering, I guess I tend to lean towards the more unconventional colors. I also realize that Music Man offer the most color choices out there which is one of the things I love about Music Man, that and the tone. I am being patient and I know what ever colors you come up with will be awesome. Again I am sorry about upsetting you and everything else it was not my intention I promise.

look forward, not backwards. It really makes life more enjoyable.

Like I said just having to choose a different color is what bites not that I did not get what I wanted. I had a feeling anyway that the color I wanted was going to get discontinued anyway as I have only seen 1 bass with that color and that was on these boards. I have never seen that one locally. And I am really looking forward to what Music Man comes up with next as they always deliver and never disappoint.

There it is , in black and white...."Shoulda' , woulda', coulda'...will get you just that!!" moral? If you see a color or product you have got to have.... do what it takes to get it, as tomorrow it maybe no more.

An excerpt from "The Usual Questions and The Search Function" sticky up top:

8. Why did Ernie Ball stop producing my favorite finish?

A: Because you were the only person who really, really loved it. Okay, not really, but if a finish is popular and sells well, it will remain as an option. If it doesn't sell well, it goes the way of the dinosaurs. Yes, I know how many of you love sparkle finishes, but they simply didn't sell well enough when they were current.

I'm always intrigued by "what's next". (Yes, I also identify with missing some of the "old" finishes.)

Dargin is like a mad scientist!

we have to continually evolve..WE also let the dealers know this last week and delayed this. Due to this I wont do that again because we didnt get to deliver the news.

Im ok but really we dont discntinue a color to punish people...the combined total of those colors is about a weeks production and the cost is enormous

I think it's great so many options are available, we allways have the standard colors which are very sweet by themselves, but I don't think there's any other company offering so many other (limited) finishes, ofcourse some in a limited span of time, but I really think we can'T complain ;) , we'll have to make choices which ones to buy (expect musicman nut, he buys them all :D)

I know you don't do it to punish people and I wasn't really complaining. It gives me plenty of time to come up with a color and pickguard combo. Not to mention with the economy the way it is, it takes a while to save for a new bass. But I am sure I don't have to tell you about the economy as it has hit everyone pretty hard. Again I do apologize and I look forward to what Music Man will offer in the future.

Take care and may God bless you.

I'm suprised that Firemist is leaving so soon..I thought that would be a real hit.

I have complete faith however that the new options will be just as, if not more, totally badass.

Wow, and here I thought that Translucent Teal was one of the more popular colors. (I love it, personally.) Thank heavens I bought a bass in this finish before it becomes unavailable.

It's kind of a bummer that six of the eight newest finishes didn't quite catch on. I thought many of them looked fabulous.
