I got my Big AL today. And... it's a really good. No seriously, its a damn good bass.
I dunno what magic potion the MM folks drank this year but both the Big AL and 25th are absurdly great instruments.
So I got home late from work but still squeezed in some playing time. In general the pickup selection options + the preamp give your an absurd amount of flexibility.
The single coils are pretty amazing. They rock solo'd and rock combined. The bridge solo'd is super fun & a refreshing new sound being that I'm a "humbucker at the bridge" kinda guy.
I had a Bongo once and i found myself playing differently due to the preamp. Kinda like the preamp was so flexible it would constantly dare me to do new things w/ my sound.... in turn getting me to play different styles. This happens again with the Big AL. It just makes you stretch yourself cuz the bass can - you almost have to try and keep up with the breadth of the bass.
its a lot of fun!
It has a Sterling neck - so that's excellent & feels right at home to me.
So chalk me up as a fan. its a damn good bass.
thanks for building it guys
and here's a pick from Brandt since I haven't snapped any of my own
if you've got the $ and are considering getting one just do yourself a favor and go for it. I haven't been this floored by a bass in a long, long time
