Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I don't currently own a Music Man, but I'm on the hunt for a left handed JP6 and Silhouette Special. Dubaldo Music has a used lefty JP6 in orange firemist (and orange happens to be my favorite color). It has the BFR rosewood neck and a piezo pickup, so it's a little more expensive than most of the used JP6s I've seen. I've never played a rosewood neck. How does it affect the tone and playability? I'm guessing that since it's the BFR neck, it might be a little nicer than the standard neck, but I have no idea.

Also, does anyone have a picture of a Dargie Delight II Silhouette? Drum City Guitar Land has a lefty in stock, but there are no pictures of it.

BFR doesn't mean it's nicer than a regular neck, in this case it's just something that EBMM doesn't normally offer, a rosewood neck.

As far as tone and playability you'll find different opinions. I'd say the difference in feel is more noticeable than the tone. Tone wise it's a bit warmer than maple, but feels wise it's completely different.

And I'm going to guess I'm uniquely qualified to discuss that particular lefty JP as it used to be mine, and I can tell you it's a great sounding guitar. I loved the rosewood, but I've become addicted to the finished necks on JP BFR models, and preferred the tone and neck access as well so I sold it to fund the Cherry Burst.

You definitely won't regret getting a RW neck'd JP. I adore mine. Also I completely agree with ProtoChicken. It's more a feel thing than a tone thing.

Hmmm, didn't realize the neck access was different on the BFR guitars. I never even noticed the lower horn was different until you said that. I'm 99% sure I'd prefer the non-finished neck. All of my current axes have oiled or unfinished necks, and I'm really happy with them that way.

Does that guitar have the Crunchlab/Liquifire pickups or the older ones? Was there any reasons other than what you listed why you sold it (meaning, anything negative about it I should know before I buy it)?

Oh yeah, I had another question. How well does the tremolo stay in tune? I was really wanting a guitar with a locking trem, but I've also been wanting a Petrucci for a long time. Does it stay in tune well enough for me to kill two birds with one stone, or will I still want a guitar with a Floyd later?

Wellcome to forum Killa J.

Tone is almost the same, just a little bit warmer but it is really hard to recognize. As ProtoChicken says, feel is more noticable. Rosewood is smoother, easy-slide (if it's in normal condition and clean), better for soloing. That's what I feel.

You mentioned silo, silo special and JP... Note that, Silo and silo special are little bit similar but JP6 is tottaly different. Before the neck, you had better to decide on what kind of guitar you want...And than if you buy a rosewood I am sure you will like it..

That guitar still has the D-Sonic and custom neck pickup in it. Nothing negative about it at all, it's a great guitar and looks much better in person. I loved it, but it simply wasn't going to get played enough (if any) to justify my keeping it.

Actually, I want a JP6 and a silo special. Gotta cover all the bases. ;)

Welcome to the Addiction!

The rosewood neck. I am sold on them as they have such a wondering feel to them....hard to describe. I like to say "spongy"...but...I use weird terminology to begin with..haha.

The trem is excellent and the axe stays in tune perfectly. It is JP's after all.

Plus, the one you are looking at is in your favorite color....can't beat that either.

It will be a great choice.

I think I can speak for most of the forum. Regardless of anything else, we all want another guitar to add to the collection....... :D

I've played a couple rosewood neck guitars and if I had the option of one over the other available, I'd get a rosewood at this point. (I'm sort of kicking myself for not buying the Egyptian Smoke Luke with the rosewood neck).

It's definitely an addiction. I guess what I should have asked is if the tremolo on the Petruccis will do well enough that I won't need a guitar with a Floyd. I really hate locking tremolos, but they've worked better for me than anything else.

Also that guitar is one of two Lefty Orange Firemist Rosedwood JP6's made. Forum member Kissmyaxe owns the other one I believe, and his has the JP shields instead of dots so this one is unique.

EBMM unfinished maple necks are incredible! EBMM rosewood necks are incredibly incredible and also quite rare as they were only offered for one month! Dargies are also very collectible!

As a previous owner of one, YOU NEED to pull the trigger if your means allows it.

The feel of the neck is unbelievable.

Control and playability are such underrated aspects to the guitar experience, and they are all contributing elements to your sound and tone.

I have felt nothing more comfortable than a RW Neck, even more on a JP or Silo shaped neck.

DO IT
