So, I am totally new here - and I found this site by searching for "music man guitar center 45th anniversary" because I just bought one. I LOVE it. It is the most beautiful bass in my collection.

I am excited to join the Music Man Brotherhood (sisterhood?!?) after being a Fender man since, well, since the late 80s. I was saving my $$ for a Rickenbacker 4003. I had sold some gear on eBay and was putting gig money away to finally own the "dream" bass. Well, I went into my local Guitar Center yesterday and saw this amazing piece of equipment - the Guitar Center 45th anniversary Sting Ray 5. I had a Sterling SB14 and loved that but could not stop looking at this thing. I took it off the wall and plugged it in and fell instantly in love with the feel, the playability and the sound.

So, please excuse my ignorance, but this is a SR5 - but what's the official model if it has two pickups?

I am sold. I will always love my Geddy Lee Jazz and my 1993 Fender Jazz with the Long Horn, but I just played my first gig with this SR today and, damn, it's the sweetest bass I've ever played on stage.

Correct me if I am right :D .... but does that neck have a 0 fret right after the nut? If so why?

i think what you are seeing is actually the nut. its black like on my dd2. the thing that looks like the nut above it is a eeflection from the flash where they glossed the hs. either way beautiful bass. welcome aboard.

Stingray 96191 is correct - there is nothing above the nut - it is just trick photography... ;-)

Thanks for the welcomes, all. I will be spending alot of time here ...

Welcome! You've got a lot of nice basses, but we all know which one is the nicest. :)

Be careful, once you get one you won't be able to stop yourself from getting more!

I'm a little worried about that! The only good news (or bad news) is that unlike Fenders, you can't get a $600 "standard" version made in Korea or Mexico! You have to shell out the ca$h for a real Music Man ...
