I am researching to figure out what the best chorus pedal for a bass would be. I play at 4HH Bongo through a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. I know a lot of you guys are not a big fan of effects, but I figure a few of you might have a pedal that has worked well for you. I understand its subjective, just looking for some opinions.

Ashdown Chorus Plus, it has dual function in fact it allows you to use it as a chorus and as a flanger. Warning, it turns you into Pino Palladino from the moment you switch it on! :p

The best for me is the TC Electronics SCF.

In addition to chorus it also does flange and pitch modulation. It's about as transparent as a pedal can get (i.e. really lets the sound of your bass come thru). And also works as a signal buffer.

The only downside for me is that it needs AC power. All my other pedals are running off a OneSpot and I need a separate power cord for my chorus.

I've tried other but keep going back to the TCE SCF.

Can you guys name some songs that have bass chorus? Only one comes to mind for me, Come As You Are by Nirvana. I am sure there are more...but can you give some examples so I can listen more closely to them?

Listen to Paul Young, "Wherever I lay my hat" Grooveshark -- Listen to Free Music Online -- Internet Radio -- Free MP3 Streaming

or....

"I'm gonna tear your playhouse down" Grooveshark -- Listen to Free Music Online -- Internet Radio -- Free MP3 Streaming

or...

very subtledly played by Jaco Pastorius in the Weather Report song "A remark you made" Grooveshark -- Listen to Free Music Online -- Internet Radio -- Free MP3 Streaming

but there's tons of stuff with bass chorus I just can't remember it all.

I am sure even Tony Levin is a chorus person.

Lots of 80s records particularly used chorus-sed basslines, my fave chorus pedal is the Ibanez CS9.
Simple, 'warm'-sounding and versatile.

+1

It's studio sound quality built into a small sturdy pedal. I have a used one that's probably 20 years old or something and it sounds still absolutely phantastic.

That said, I think all phase shifting effects suck out the bass more or less.

I have never found a chorus I really loved, so I basically keep the effect level low to just fill the sound a bit.

I currently use the chorus on my Boss ME-50B multi-effects pedal.

Suggest you look into the Diamond Halo Chorus. Amazing tone and sparkle across the whole register. Clean and quiet sound with deep bass and nice, shimmering highs.

Diamond Guitar Pedals

Just as great but a whole different feel/vibe would be the Analogman chorus. Fantastic. Available with a low pass toggle, this one ensures all bass freq. get through. Another fantastic pedal.

Analog Man Standard Chorus

I've had both. In fact, I've owned the Analogman twice. That said, they're very different pedals, but both are awesome at what they do in their own unique way...personal taste will be your deciding factor.

Let us know where you land!

Best,
-P

I currently use an EBS UniChorus and love it. I am interested in the new TC Electronic Modulator pedal though. I am scared to buy before trying due to its being designed for guitar and I wanted to hear how bass sounded through it before buying.

Anybody out there tried the new TC Electronic NM-1 Nova Modulator?

I tried the Nova Modulator. I liked it, but it got a little cumbersome after a while and I realized that I was only using one setting. If you're going to use everything that it comes with, go for it.

I own a Boss CEB-3. It's a nice pedal in my opinion, though I have very little chorus pedal experiance. Good luck in your search.

you can find one used cheap... try a Danelectro Cool Cat. It was the best chorus I've ever hear on guitar but I don't know how well it works on bass
