I picked up a new Axis from an online dealer a while back. I absolutely love this guitar, so much I'm thinking about getting the 25Th anniversary. The only thing I have noticed is the low E string seem a little close to the edge of the fretboard and sometimes falls of when fretted. I have adjusted my playing to accommodate. Is the common with the Axis and/or the 25TH. Also with the neck being unfinished should I put anything on it.

Thanks

can't answer the E string question, but here's some info on maintaining the bare neck.....from Music man faqs...

there's also this vid on utube

Personally, I would only sand the neck if it was extremely dirty, and if you read the comments below in the vid there are concerns about this...

The hi E string on my EVH is a bit closer to the edge than the low E is. I too had to adjust my playing (I've had it for 14 years), but it does occasionally still slip off the edge. I have heard of a number of other folks that also have this issue, not really sure if anything can, or has been done to correct it.

My Rosewood Axis SS does not have this issue.

Glad you are liking your Axis!

I've got a couple of Jacksons that are the same way. The highE is way too close of the end of the fretboard so that when doing small bends, the Estring would fall off the fretboard. The only way I got around it was to change a little how I bend so that my vibrato is not as strong.

Hey guys thanks for the replies the video was a great help. I would like to know if anyone who owns a 25th Anniversary has had any issues with the E string falling off the fretboard. There is nowhere to test one out in my area so I would have to order one blind.

Thanks

If I recall correctly, this correction was made on the Axis after the EVH signature was discontinued.

It was widened a little bit... 1/32 of an inch if I remember right... but it is still a little close to the edge if you are not used to it. Once you get used to how the Axis plays you don't even notice you have slightly adapted your playing to the guitar. What it does do for you though is makes you a much better player because you have to continually focus on being accurate with your notes, chords and finger placement in general. It really shows when you try another brand with their wide sloppy necks...

I used the Wonder Wipes on mine and it really cleaned things up... unless its super dirty that is all I would do.
