Yeah....I guess I chickened out after 3 weeks. I played the hell out of that beautiful SR5, but call me chicken, but I feel MUCH more comfortable playing a 4 string.

Say hello to my new 4 string...A sweet 30th Anniversary Stingray. I actually picked this up from Timmy5Strings who sold it to me for a reasonable forum member price....Funny thing is that the only 2 basses I own I purchased from Timmy. Hell, he lives like 5 miles away....:D

Add me to the 5 string chicken list as well...

But then again if a 4 stringer was good enough for the majority of my favorite bass players, well then gosh darn it, its good enough for little old me.

rex you owned all of them at one time....trick queston..DO you still have one?

I think that they are still the best example of a stingray.....

Someone should check Guitar Centers inventory and see if they have any of these in the scratch and dent sale...probably could steal a work horse

Hey, Timmy5Strings sold me his Stealth Bongo 5 so add me to the resale club.
Don't feel too bad about the five string thing, I've figured out that it's something you have to adapt and conform to and it does take some time to get used to (in my case about six months). Once you get it down though it becomes the instrument you want to play and the fours just fall by the wayside. It has to be a fiver that feels real good in your hands and the Bongo is there for me all the way.

I recently came into a 4-string bass and my guitar player friend asked me "what are you going to do with that? Do you even remember how to play a 4?"
Once you make the transition, it's another weapon in your arsenal. I love me some 5!

I, too, am making my first attempt at a 5-string. Picked up a nice 20th SR5HS, which has really nice tone. Bulky, for sure. But didn't you fall in love with having an octave below everything on the A string available to you with little hand movement (on the B string)? I'm really into that feature at the moment. Makes me sound better than I am -- or was!!

Thanks Mark-,

Actually, I can say I loved the feel of the neck on it, and was actually getting used to it, but I don't want my SR4 HS to fall by the wayside...I like it that much. Of the 20 something songs my upstart band has thus far, and the 15 they plan on adding, only 1 requires downtuning the E string...I prefer the wider spring spacing as well....but don't get me wrong, if I was playing in my last band, I'd still have the 5 string.

I'm the opposite...I've always been known to just switch out to a 4 string strung BEAD and for having D-tuners on all my basses! :D

Funny your friend cracked on you like that. My guitarist told me, "Dude, you can't play a 5 string.....your license plate says 4STRING":)
