What I did to my Silo Spec (the candy red one) that was also amazingly bright, was to throw in pretty warm pickups, and play around with the tone pots. Your DSonic is running thru a 500k pot? or 250k? I ended up throwing a Tonezone in the bridge and a protrack in the neck. Warmed it up considerably...

Also, in your case, it COULd be the maple neck that's the culprit.

Did you change the tone capacitor also or left the stock there? Could that be it?

If not, try a Super 3 - Air Zone (or Air Norton S) DiMarzio combo. I've read it's great for metal, and there's hardly anything darker than that.

Not sure if I'd recommend the Dimebucker in this case... that might be VERY treble heavy. Maybe a Tonezone or a '59? EMG 85?

Interesting discussion. The last time I brought my Silo Special to a jam session with my band, I nearly killed everyone's ears during a solo using the neck and middle pickups. The highs were intense (ear splitting) highs. I fooled around a bit with the tone and mids on my amp which helped quite a bit.

One thing is for sure, I definitely have to change the tone, mid, and bass settins on my amp quite a bit when switching between the Silo Special and 20th.

try lowering your pickups. this takes away alot of harsh highs and gives you more fundamental tone instead of the increased harshness you get from the string being to close to the polepieces.

Dude, try my combo.
I actually wonder why mine is so warm, acoustically, but whatever the reason, I love it.
Solid saddles
Dimarzio AT-1 bridge
Cruiser bridge.. in the middle
Fast Track 1 in the neck.
Dimarzio 500k volume and tone pots, kinman type treb bleed on the volume pot and .022 RS guitar works cap on the tone pot.
I would also recommend a real pro fret dress to make sure there's absolutely no fret sizzle.
