I believe it's real. They did make an Axis hardtail in trans purple, probably in the 1997-1998 range. I actually owned one briefly, but sold it to a forum member.

It's real and really nice too. It's an Axis with a hardtail bridge. I got one in Trans-Red. I love these guitars and there are actually not that many of them out there.

Looks like a Purple Hardtail Axis. These were made in the late 90's and are fairly rare. I doubt its a fake but if you want to be sure you can always ask for the serial number and inquire with Ernie Ball about its build date. But, again.. it looks like the real thing. The color Purple was discontinued because it had a tendency to fade. This looks like an early Purple Axis because the color is so similar to the Purple EVH. When EBMM re-formulated it the color on the later Axis it was much darker and that may be what you are used to seeing.

Looks pretty strange that it hasn't the "Made in San L..." decal written behind the headstock, I'm not a old MM expert, but I had a 1998 Luke and it had that decal. The case is surely not the original one because at that time EBMM gave gig bags by default, not cases, and this is confirmed by the paper inside that case.

All the other things look original to me, the only concern is the "San luis obispo" decal lack and I'd like to see the neck plate to examinate that logo

Someone out there correct me if I'm wrong, but EBMM's have always come with a hardshell case. I've owned 3 Axis hardtails, and they've all come with the older style G&G case. But, I bought all three of them used, so . . .

The "Made in SLO" decal should be in the white/gray color, same as the Axis logo on the front of the headstock. I think the seller's picture of the back of the headstock is out of focus.

You're 100% correct on both statements/facts Tony.

GC use to sell them EBMM's without cases, but they would try to sell you a G&G style case, plus if that's an early Axis, it may have come with the G&G style case. The hard plastic SKB cases weren't introduced until like either mid to late 90's, but this part is a guess on my part.

I was told by EBMM CS some time ago that the MM SKB cases were introduced in 2000. Based on the eBay pics, the guitar and everything that comes with it looks legit and original.

dont let me put any of you guys off. im unfortunatley not in the market for it as ive just got my mystic dream jp6. and the prospect of shipping from the states to the uk scares me a little at the moment. but it does look fantastic if its the real thing. i knew there were evh hardtails. but it just looked a little odd to me as id never seen one like it before. and ive seen a few people selling supposed musicman guitars when there not. i pointed this out to a guy selling a olp axis on ebay.co.uk. he had it listed as a ebmm axis. and a pretty expenisve price for a olp. he never replyied lol.

Pretty sweet. Regarding the cases I bought a Morse back in early 2000(?) and that came in/ w a Music Man gig bag. A great gig bag at that.

Purple... who doesn’t like purple. It looks good, but the pics don’t show the tiny imperfections. If I had the money... It would be sold!
