Hi all - I'm new here. I've been lurking for about a month and this is quite a community. I finally registered as I'm thinking about getting my first MM (Sterling) for my birthday and need some help. I've tried out the AX40 and I really liked it. However, I think it may be a little out of my price range. I've been looking for a Silo20 to try out and can't find one. I live in the Chicagoland area. Have any of you out there found one or know how I can locate one in this area? I've been to 2 GC's around here and neither had one. Although I believe it has basically the same neck as the AX40 I'd still like to try before I buy.

Thanks

1st off welcome!

try calling customer service and they can tell you where the closest one is.

Ive played both, in my opinion the silo20 just felt smoother to me and had more tones to play with again, thats just my 2 cents

I was going to get a Silo20 as well until I found a used SUB-1 MusicMan. See if you can find one of those. USA made and around $400-500 US used.

Dude, welcome. The Sterling line is made by the Parks, here is a link and a place you can try to locate a dealer from.

Sterling by MUSIC MAN - DEALERS

I wouldn't call EBMM CS, I'd try the Sterling CS either via email or maybe Pat Park can help you out to locate one in your area, as he's a poster here at time.

Whats your price range?

Good luck with your search. Glenn |B)

It'll be one in Chicago you can try for sure. Email Pat Park, he's great for assisting you in any questions, just go to the Sterling site.
I've played all the sterling guitars, went with the JP50. But I think you should drop the extra cash for the AX40, you won't regret it.

Price range? As little as possible :D. I've seen used Silo20 for $319 vs a used AX40 for $439. The AX40 is missing the trem bar - no big deal there. I just don't know if I can swing the extra $120 right now. I'm not sure how long the used AX40 will be around. The Silo20 may be all I can afford at those prices for used. If all I can find is new when I'm ready to buy then I'll have to wait longer in either case - $399 vs $549.

Thanks all for the responses.

That's a really nice one, Mike!! Comes with a hard case too. HH with trem and the coil splitters are already there in Cinamon.......if I had an eBay account, I'd jump on this one. (and no, it's not mine) :D

Dude you could always do the GC financing and stretch it out over a year. Or talk to Pete Dubaldo about doing time payments. If that works for you.

Silo 20

I'm really interested in the Silo 20. Sounds like a great guitar for the price. I also like the diversity with the humbuckers and single coil tones.

GC is carrying AX40 and JP50, but not the Silo20. You can special order a Silo20 thru GC, but won't be able to try before you buy. I'm sure they would give some kind of approval period.

The dealers in the link above, can special order any model we have in stock.

GC does allow you to return it within 30 days with no penalty if you decide it's not for you. The Silo 20 feels very different from an AX20 or AX40. If you can find a Musicman Silhouette near you, try it out. It's going to be the closest that I can think of to get an idea if you like it. There are, of course, differences between the SBMM and the Musicman but if you like the Silhouette, I think you'll like the Silo 20.

Just picked one up and LOVING it! Been looking for a smaller feeling guitar and this thing nails it... A great guitar at an amazing price... now waiting for a Silhouette to come along with the specs I'm looking for.
(HSH, blue body, rosewood fretboard, would prefer hardtail)
