I met up with new knucklehead Lukather101 last night. He lives about a 40 minute drive away and he wanted me to look at his balls
First up was an early Morse hardtail that had developed some pitting in the lacquer on the neck. After a dose of SpudMurphy's super secret unguents, the neck came up very nice. He had all the case candy including the original EB quality checklist initialled "DG" - Dudley Gimple perhaps?
Luke is a very nice guitarist who plays in a lot "heavier" style than myself - but man some of those Satch and EVH licks sounded awesome throgh my Mesa F50.
We had it turned up LOUD - my ears were still buzzing this morning!
He tried all my balls and was very complimentary on them.
Next up was a Luke he bought - really nice condition - Red.
he had spent money on a set up and was not happy with it.
Man - the bridge floated so high that when you played around 12-15 fret and bent the stings a tone - your fretting/bending finger slid underneath the adjacent strings. It was a 8ugger to stay in tune too because of the amount of float.
I screwed in the claw and got it to pitch up by a semitone,- this brought the trem closer to the body then radiused the saddles. Got the action low - too low in fact so upped them a tad. Adjusted the intonation - gave the rod a tweek and it played a lot better. A lot more stable. It sounded VERY nice through the Mesa. I told him to play it to death this week and I'll pay him a return visit -he can show me how to play the tapping solo from Jump!!
I'm not a Luke expert so it will be interesting to see the set up from the factory, when I see the Strings n Things stall at Music Live this weekend.
So once again, great to meet a fellow knucklehead and go someway to sorting out some problems. I meant to take some pics - but alas, I forgot
