2. A hissing tweeter: it makes a hissing sound even with the volume turned completely down. I could put a piece of insulation foam between the tweeter and the protective grille, in order to muffle it. I think the foam will absorb the hissing noise.

I had the same feeling about the hissing tweeter,
thats because its a piezo,
Ive put a real tweeter in the 121 and the problem was gone!

Hi there and thanks for the reply. Yes, I might do the same or just muffle the piezo with a piece of foam.

But what about the fan noise? What is your experience with it?

I would just like to practice quietly at home with this amp but fan noise somewhat ruins it...

How loud is the fan?

I have a LM3 amp...and yes the fan is always on, its not loud though. My old Trace 400GP12SMX... that was fairly loud.....and weighed a tonne!

Well, as loud as an average computer fan - perhaps a bit louder.

I may have unrealistic expectations, in terms of quietness, from a 300/500wrms amp...

Try and compare it to another amp/combo. My fan is by no means silent....but it doesnt interfere with my playing. I don't sit that close to it though.

I prefer the compression driver over the tweeter.....I love all of their stuff and ended up begging for some new stuff at Bass Player Live...I felt a little guilty afterwards...I was excioted....(I still hope top see the sstuff!)

I have the compressor and that is the greatest thing since coffee

Must admit, it just WORKS like a dream with EB basses.

I would love two NY121s! But the LM3 I have is brilliant with whatever cabs I use it with.

The word "dude" was not meant callously or disrespectfully - I "dude" my friends too.

In any case, I should probably log out and leave the people in this forum in peace.

For the record, I have talked (last week) with a couple of staff at Markbass in Italy regarding the fan noise and tweeter hissing "issues" and they have explained the situation, as they see it. I just wanted some input on what other users of the particular amp think about it.

With a 500w amp, it shouldn't be too difficult to play louder than the noise that any internal fan might make. For example, turning the master volume up to, say, somewhere between "0" and "1" should do it. And, at gigs, when you're not playing any notes, I doubt the fan would be heard over the fans in the stage spotlights, the fans in the front of house and foldback power amps, the compressor in the bar fridges, the hum of the lighting dimmers, etc.
