I am glad I got my silo in Graphite Pearl when I did. It is a great color and I love it. So lately I have been thinking of getting a JP6. As anyone who knows trying to find a new one anywhere is pretty hard. They few I found on-line come in Mystic Dream which I know a lot of people on this site love but honestly I don't . Granted I have never seen one in person so maybe it looks much better then it does in pictures. The others I have found on-line come in white and black. Pretty boring colors. The EBMM website shows the new color scheme and I have to say I miss some of the discontinued colors. Obviously they are discontinued because they were not big sellers but I have seen pics of JP6's in Dessert Gold and Lava Peal that look absolutely killer. What do others think about the lack of interesting colors on the new EBMM JP's? Which colors are liked or missed the most?

^ that link had pretty good pics of the pearl redbursts, but they are hard to photograph... in indirect light or from an angle it looks black, and in direct light or straight on it has a very deep red bursting from the center and fading away at the edges

Thanks Crimson excellent link they do have a ton of JP6's in every color. So should I assume that say the Dessert Gold is last years model and won't have the crunch lab or liquid fire pups?

Good point, you may want to order new or a guitar with a build date after Sept (?) of this year so you get those new pickups. They are awesome.

As far as what most people are saying it's not the difference between the D-Sonic and the Crunch Lab that's too drastic, it's mostly people's preference for the Liquifire over the Air Nortons.

You could always change them out. There's a strong likelihood that the JP's in older colors will be used and slightly cheaper. Take the difference and change the pick ups if they're important to you. Problem solved.

So EBMM had some very nice and interesting colors before they got discontinued such as Graphite Pearl, Dessert Gold, Orange Mist, Egyptian Smoke etc... what now is left is Blue, White, Red, Black etc... I am new to EBMM so was the bold colors they had before something new to them that they gave it a try and unfortunately they didn't work out and we are back to the basic colors all guitar companies have or are new bold colors coming out soon? Does and of our dealer friends on here know?

Well, one thing I know is that ever since I've been into EBMM guitars (2000), they've always had interesting finishes. I know they have recently discontinued some because they weren't selling as much as with everyone hurting from the economy, they are trying to be more conservative with what they offer because if they only shoot a finish say only once in awhile ever so often, ....it's simply "waste" because they go thru the trouble of loading that paint to shoot one guitar, until the next might come some several weeks later. That is why BP said they stopped offering Walnutburst, Emerald Green, etc.

But, I would definitely think that you'll see more interesting type colors in the furture. Here is an example that I love showing off of a JP6 I once owned of "Autumn Redburst", back before there ever was a "Desert Gold" or "Orange Firemist".

actually I don't mean to keep rambling on about colors as long as the guitar has a great shape, plays fantastic, and sounds wonderful i guess who cares what color it is. Unfortunately the GC in my state does not stock or have any EBMM's on display so i may have to purchase this expensive piece of equipment without trying it out first. I did just purchase a new Silo how does the JP6 compare, I don't mean so much in sound but in overall shape, neck, radius. etc.. Does the JP6 and Silo use the same neck? I love my Silo's neck

Nah, they both have different necks. It really helps if you can play before you buy, but I understand your situation. The regular JP6's I believe have thinnest neck of all EBMM guitar (correct me if I'm wrong). But, they are wider than say an Axis...as far as string spacing (width at the nut)...which is typical for a "shredder" type of guitar.

It's purely preference, but I found that for me....they are to thin. Oddly enough, I do still own and like a BFR JP6, because the necks feel more rounder and a tad thicker. I know this is only suppose to be, because of the neck being finished...but, whatever the reason, I can tolerate it (barely). I really love Axis guitars for their meatier neck. There again, the JP6 has a flatter fingerboard, more suited for shredding. So, that is all something that you'll have to consider.

***BTW: I just looked at the JP6 color chart for the first time in a long time and saw what you mean. They definitely limited the colors more now than I've ever seen. But, there again...that probably is due to the economy and the fact that they also want to sell the BFR JP6's.

Has anyone done this? My one experience with swapping pickups on the older original (Steve's Special based) JP6 was that the stock Dimarzios are slightly different in height compared to the original OEM bridge pickup in the JP6. Also, the OEM pickups have a black base plate and the stock Dimarzios do not, to the extent that that matters.

There is also the potential issue of the polarity of the coils for the middle position.

Perhaps this is no longer the case, but it may be something to verify in advance with Dimarzio if one is planning to change pickups. Something to consider if the OP decides to go that route.
