Do people still do that?

Ever listen to a smooth jazz station?

In this country, it's died down alot for now. But in other parts of the world never stopped.

And in the most unlikely band to hear it come up in, have you heard Muse's new album?

The Stingray is one of the best bass guitars for slap, Infact for slap, a Stingray is a machine made in heaven.

As for the abortion that the guy from Muse "attempted" at slap imho the less said about that the better, to then go on in a recent interview and try and belittle someone like Mark King no less for slapping was laughable at best, indeed as were his comments about Status basses (again great slap machines)

Slap is still cool, when used well.

Slap technique, you either have it or you don't and it really doesn't matter what pickup configuration you use, single or double humbucker,

Ask the great Ed Friedland and he would tell you. Also have a look at this guy with a Bongo 5HH, you think that 2 humbuckers restrict you from slapping? watch these videos and think again... :D

or any of Ed Friedland's or Stan Sargeant's or Dave LaRue's stuff. Of course mynan knows these guys and many others are out there thumbin away ... marcus, vic, etc... I took his tongue-in-cheek question as a statement - slap is not his thing, and that's of course totally cool. I think that's true for a good many here. For many of us, though, slap is not played out, and never will be.

As for which EBMM basses are good for slap, I think "all of 'em" is definitely true, but if I had to name favorites: for finger style, give me any Bongo, any day of the week. But for slap, give me an H or HH Ray, and let me get my swerve on.

The Sterling, Big Al and 25th have great slap tones too, I just haven't spent quality time with 'em. For slap, for me, the Ray is like a glove.

YES YES YES Dammit! lol, but hey, thank God for my 2 other great basses and a very fit girlfriend to keep me busy. Besides... in the same "shipment" there is also my son's left handed black Silo but he doesn't know that yet until xmas day.

Any MM sounds good, but if I had to express a preference I'd say my favourite is my 'Ray 5 HH with both humbuckers on, sounds just great slapped.

Then again, the single H 4-string Bongo has that amazing E string tone...

Funny how two people can read the same interview and interpret different things. No belittle I saw, just that he didn't want a tone like Mark's. Also that so called "hack" is also now playing a Status.
Can't wait for their concert here in a week. I see he also owns a couple StingRays, I wonder if they'll be seeing stage use.

thanks

Many thanks for the replies. The stingray got the most recommendation, so....
looks like it's ray time.
