i tried this out today, NOTHING in the bass universe sounds warmer and better than it, NOTHING
Man, I cannot resist a good "tube vs. solid state" throw down, so here's two cents from an old dog who's hauled his share of "big iron" over the years.....I agree, but always there are some "buts" according the tube bass amps!
Real tube amp working in "A" class output operation is impossible to built stronger than aprox. 25 Watts !!!
With push-pull pentode output tubes is always present distortion sound between +Ve and -Ve part of sinusoidal signal and hardly you can reach over 100 Watts without totally distortion!
Conclusion: Tube amps are great for studio recordings, and small club gigs!
The perfect bass amp will be with tube preamp section and mosfet transistor power output! (my personal opinion)
There are very good "normal" standard transistor amps on the market which works just fine in all conditions!![]()
Depends on what kind of 15's you have, but I doubt you are going to feel "underpowered". Don't forget that the 8X10 ( and I assume this is an Ampeg) is part of what got you excited about the amp's tone, and is just as important as the head. The Ampeg 8X10 is designed to "roll off" most of the frequencies below 40 hz, giving the impression of a smoother and mostly consistent fundamental from the low E on up. These rigs aren't hi-fi. And yes they have a component of distortion in the tone ( but not as much as some folks would have you believe...).i have used a kustom 1200 watt head for the longest time and tried out a svt cl recently and the next day i made a down payment on it, i dont care if it takes years to pay off(the music shop i go to lets me make a minimum of 5$ every two weeks) i need that amp. its ridiculously loud for a tube amp but im worried about underpowering my 2 15 inch speakers with it. should that be a concern? i mean it was hooked up to a set of 8 10s at the store and they were rated at 800 watts rms so it should be fine right?
